Inspiring Software - Four games for the BBC Micro

Post by Arcadian » Mon Aug 10, 2020 1:11 am

Four (uninspiring) games from Inspiring Software: Birdies, Diamonds, Mancala and Noughts and Crosses.

The RRP for this 'effort' was £24.95 apparently!

It looks as if Birdies and Mancala are on the "Missing BBC Games" list (viewtopic.php?t=14458), although Mancala is misspelt there as "Manoala", and Inspiring is misspelt as "Inspring".

I suppose it's too much to hope that "Zarlix", the other Inspring game on that list, is a misspelling of "O's & X's"?

I have removed Mancala and Birdies from the missing list.
Also, corrected the spelling of "Inspiring" Software.
Can anyone point us to a magazine advert for Inspiring software??

Here you go, Acorn User May 1990 p126: https://archive.org/details/AcornUser09 ... 7/mode/2up

Possibly this is the exact source of the "Missing Games" entry, since it has the "Inspring" misspelling and the "c" of "Mancala" is very badly printed.

75p each, except that you have to phone an 0898 number to order them …

As one of the games shows 1984 I went through Acorn User and Micro User from 1984 upto mid 1985 without finding anything. The label on the floppy looks too modern for 1984, so not surprising it was found in 1990. I also thought it unusual to be 80 track in 1984 as most games would be 40 track compatible back then.

As for the price, seriously!! Trying to charge over double the price of a professional game for what amounts to be something you'd expect to find on Cascade 50.

I don't know if it's the same company, but the September 88 edition of Acorn User contained an ad for a Graph Generator from "Inspiring Software":

Anyway, regarding the naff games compilation, one of the REM statements features a "B Thomas" and as the Birdie game references "Thomsoft", it sounds as if this B Thomas character may be behind all of the games... and possibly the dodgy software label too.
