Model B+ MMC install help required

Post by r05sco » Tue Mar 24, 2020 5:25 pm

Evening all,
I seem to have a little more free time at present and looking to get a few projects completed before #2 child arrives in mid April.
Took off the cover of what I thought was a BBC Model B, turns out it's a B+.
I have seen threads relating to the install on B's order of chips but not sure what IC to stick the MMC into.
Also the chip without a cover, what's that one? Should it be uncovered like that? Please excuse my ignorance, I'm still learning.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Regards and stay safe,
Ross

Oooh thats interesting... A B+ with factory fitted 8271 :D

The ROM with the naked window is most likely the DFS and no... It should have a sticker over it.
It might be an idea to erase it and re-program

The MMC ROM should be "above" the DFS in the order. I am not familiar with the B+ socket positions but a *Help will tell you what you have and the heirarchy.

better to use the MMFS B+ version, so can use the useless printer buffer ram so keeps page down to &E00

take out the unstickered eprom ( it will be DFS 1.2 or 0.9, then put it else where) then pop your MMC ROM in its place.

I have a B+ too, pics are in laptop #-o
can upgrade it to 128k easily, if good with soldering ram chips stacked together 8)

Thanks for all the advice. Would definitely consider upgrading to 128k at some point, also the KK speech chip install.
Will pop the MMC in tomorrow and give it a whirl.
Many thanks,
Ross
