Gotek doesn't like USB stick

Post by archie456 » Sun Dec 01, 2019 5:05 pm

Hi,

I've set up a Gotek with my Master 128, and using my main USB stick (Sandisk Blade Cruzer 128GB) it works really well.

As the Blade Cruzer is overkill for whats needed, I bought a 32GB Sandisk Ultra Fit - a small USB stick.

But the Gotek doesn't seem to like this stick - all that happens is the Flash Floppy start screen flashes - the Master doesn't recognise any disk.

Any ideas whats going on? The Ultra Fit looked like a good solution (its small) - Its formatted FAT32? Is there anything else I need to do to get the Gotek to recognise it?

Thanks.

I think it might still need MBR rather than GPT.
I have had mixed compatibility with various sticks/cards, no discernible pattern, but I didn't know about MBR/GPT.

Can you change a memory stick to MBR? or is it a case of buying a new one?

Cheers.

You partition it as such - you might need to get your hands dirty under the bonnet with Disk Management in windows but I'd have thought most USB sticks are MBR...

Easy one first though - make sure it's formatted to FAT32 rather than exFAT or something else...

Like tricky I have fun with some stick happy and others not, for no obvious reason. But certainly worth try to repartition it first.

Ok, the stick is already MBR... so I get its not going to work for whatever reason.

Can anyone recommend a memory stick - about 32GB or so that works well with the Gotek?

Preferably a small one like the Cruzer fit:

I use the 16gb cruzer fits. If you're having problems though, raise it with Keir as an issue either in the FlashFloppy facebook forum or via the github issues tab? He should be able to get to the bottom of what's going wrong...
