Can anyone identify this adventure game?

Post by Tony1044 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 11:48 am

Hey guys,

This is a bit of a long-shot, I know, as the information I have from memory is a bit vague, but here goes...

It was an adventure game set in space - you started off in a rocket / space ship somewhere and about the only thing I can remember in detail was that at one point you picked up a piece of metal that you could bend into a pair of tweezers...

I can't remember if it was for the beeb or the electron (or both, of course) and that's about all I can remember except it may have had coloured text.

Oh man - as I re-read that, I can't believe how vaporous the details are...I felt sure I could remember more than that!!? Sorry.

This is a total guess, because I never played it - Snowball by Level 9? That was set on a spacecraft, as I recall.

The Hunt? (Tried that out recently and failed returning through the duck-jump corridor!) Brilliant game.

I don't remember there being any tweezers in The Hunt (Search for Shauna). There is a bit where you have to make some metal into an iron rod to then hit a robot with. Not quite tweezers but sort of along the lines of Tony1044's question?

Possibly could also have been Escape from Enthar Seven by Robico? That started in a spaceship.

Hmmm...now that name rings a vague bell...

Certainly wasn't an iron rod you bashed things with...definately tweezers! :P

Does have the look and feel that I remember...also just remembered that there was a scooter of some kind you presumably had to repair (don't remember getting that far)...

Hmmm could still be Snowball or Escape From Enthar Seven (or even some other game). In Snowball you had to fix a "snowdozer" but then in Enthar 7 you have to fix a computer (adding a wire).

Any more clues :D

Dunno about a scooter, but when you say tweezers I'm straightaway thinking you mean the pliers in Enthar Seven.

Can't claim to have completed any of them so I have no idea if there are any tweezers in them, but didn't Peter Killworth's Doomawangara trilogy all start in a crashed spaceship ... ?

Z-code: Countdown to Doom, Return to Doom and Last Days of Doom.

Was that an actual text adventure or a textual open-ended space game?

Well hi again all, after quite a few years of hiatus.

I actually managed to track this down - Rebel Planet by Adventuresoft.

Unfortunately, the images I've found seem broken - you are meant to "Press OH" at various times to open the outer hatch, but this command isn't understood.

Shame really - I was hoping to get a bit further than I had before.

Have you tried OUTER HATCH instead of just OH?

I remember getting caught out like that right at the end of Bored of the Rings.

Nah it's a device you're wearing - if you type press ih, it'll open and close the inner hatch. That said, that "nah" was a "no I haven't tried, but I am going to now" :)

The solution at CASA states that you should "PRESS OH". I could never get far in this adventure even though I'd beaten the Fighting Fantasy book it was based on!

Yep - PRESS IH to open inner hatch. That works. PRESS IH to close inner hatch. Again that works. PRESS OH to open outer hatch...sorry I'll try that later.

And that's after landing. grr

Sounds like you're missing something then, have you had a quick peek at the walkthrough?

Well just used that walkthrough to the letter and at the point it says PRESS OH I get the same error - "That may be possible later"

So out of interest I revisited this and yet again fail at the same point. I've tried different walk throughs and they all follow pretty much the same steps and all fail at the same place. Very odd

Hmm...I am using the disk image.

Why's it say you're in a cell at the top?

Because that's my current location. Notice that my last command was LEAVE AIRLOCK, which got me arrested and thrown into a cell.

Hi Tony,
Which Image are you using? the one on "Stairway to Hell"? or another one? or are you using original tape/disc?
cheers

Dodgy disk image I think.

(Not sure how to embed an image) but I tried the tape and disk images side-by-side. To ensure I didn't make any mis-steps, I copied them down into notepad and pasted them in.

The disk image gives the maybe later, the tape image opens the outer airlock.

Interestingly I've also just noticed that the tape image is USGOLD and the disk Adventuresoft
