Greetings from Scotland

Post by dwhweb » Fri Jun 14, 2019 4:33 pm

Hey there,

I'm a software development student from the central belt of Scotland, currently trying to resurrect my dead BBC Micro model B.

This was my very first machine and largely responsible for my interest in computers - I can sling a bit of Python and Javascript but a lot of the older stuff is somewhat mystifying to me. I'd really like a better low level understanding of computers as things like assembly just aren't taught these days.

I've rediscovered retro gaming and I'm in the process of building and repairing a collection - I've more recently fixed a ZX spectrum+ and a game gear. I'm hoping you can help me add another one to my fixed list!

Looking forward to speaking to some of you :)

Hi, welcome to the forum and greetings back to you, also from Scotland. You've definitely come to the right place to share ideas about old Acorn computers, and maybe pick some brains to help you sort it. It's a lively community, very alive and kicking, I'm pleased to say.

cheers

Welcome! Pull up a stool.

When at uni in the late 1980s I went to a monthly Beeb meeting in a Scout Hut in Falkirk. Every now and then I look at a map and try and remember where it was - it was about 20min walk from the railway station... but I can't remember which station! :(

Ah - I'm pretty familiar with Falkirk, I was a regular at Falkirk Linux users group until it became defunct (we're now Techmeetup Stirling).

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone :)

40th Falkirk on Bellsmeddow Road is a 20 minute walk from Falkirk High. Mind you, almost anywhere in Falkirk is within 20 minutes of Falkirk High or Grahamston.

I'm originally from Glasgow. Lived in Kirkintilloch for a bit, and walked most of the way across Scotland along the canal towpath just after it reopened.
