Quoted text in Notes is too big, esp. on iOS

Post by lurkio » Wed Dec 05, 2018 9:19 pm

As per subject, in the Notes sections of Details pages on bbcmicro.co.uk, any quoted text is displayed in too large a font size, especially on iOS.

See attached iOS screenshot.

iOS does that on some other web sites.

Quite possibly. It's not just on iOS that the quoted text on bbcmicro.co.uk is too big though -- it's too big in desktop Safari and Chrome too.

The style-definition of "blockquote" in the CSS needs tweaking, that's all, I think.

With Chrome you can set defaults for various types of body text, I tweeked mine a month or so ago because monospaced fonts were't being assigned an appropriate font. There may well be something similar for the browser you're using.

Code: Select all

True, but what I'm actually trying to do is report the issue to Paul, who maintains the bbcmicro.co.uk website, in the hope that he'll be able to fix the issue on the server side, for all users -- just as previous issues with bbcmicro.co.uk have been reported in this subforum previously.

Consider it reported. I will have a look. This appears to be by design Text is 14px and blockquotes are 17.5 px on my browser. Of course bootstrap is responsive, so this might change for different systems. I have been advised that tweaking bootstrap to look nicer is a rabbit hole which it is possible to never return from. It is a really complex system. So somebody has made the decision that this is the correct thing to do? I could remove the blockquote, but then it would be difficult to tell when the quotation started and finished.

Can some more people weigh in as to what they think?

I also meant to say that like the admins here I am reluctant to mod delivered software (Bootstrap in this case) because it increases the maintenance costs significantly.
