MDFS Key Losted

Post by philb » Fri Aug 10, 2018 10:50 pm

I seem to have somehow lost (or at the most optimistic estimate mislaid) a large bunch of keys including, most distressingly, the one for my MDFS. Would anybody be willing to cut me a duplicate?

Thanks

Phil

Back from t'north...

It occurs to me that if anybody attending the Cambridge meetup this weekend happened to bring an MDFS key with them then that'd be an ideal opportunity for me to get a duplicate cut and save Daniel the trouble. There's a locksmith (and failing that, two branches of Timpsons) within easy walking distance of the museum so that'd be straightforward to arrange.

If I manage to get to my storage locker before Daniel finds his i'll grab the key out and get a bunch of copies done.

I'll do the Nexus ones as well.

That would be extremely handy, I don't have a key for my Nexus box:

It may or may not be correctly described as a "hard disc sharer".

I think that's a fair description (assuming yours isn't broken!). Admittedly the shared bit is read-only, but...

They're also the only Acorn related thing I can think of that uses a transputer, so there's a certain novelty value there.

Against all odds, my lost bunch of keys has just turned up (in, er, my wife's suitcase). And now that I have my own MDFS key back I was able to discover that, for future reference, it seems to be fairly easy to order duplicates. For example:

So, Daniel, please stand down 8)

That's a relatively "old skool" lock, should be able to *ahem* open that without too much trouble with a couple of carefully shaped flat rods

Mmm, well I tried that on my original MDFS back in 2003 and managed to break it all into pieces within about 7 seconds, so I won't be doing that again. Probably. Unless it really is that easy. Not that I'm in a hurry. Flat rods? We do have a couple of long-handled spoons here. And more pipe cleaners than Peter Purves could know what to do with...

I'm fairly sure the Nexus keys are the same L&F series as the MDFS ones, just a different code number. If you can get someone with an original key to tell you the number (or it might even be stamped on the lock body, I forget) then you should be able to order one through the same link I posted earlier.

:) Probably best not to try then.

PhilB does raise a valid point the number might be on the barrel... Its a bit 50/50 on this point but its quite possible.
