Wanted - Banana branded 5.25” floppy discs

Post by Lardo Boffin » Sun Jun 03, 2018 9:12 pm

Hi

BITD I had a bunch of banana branded floppy discs.
I quite liked the happy yellow look of them...
I recently bought a C64 disc drive which came with several of these and reminded me that I used to have some.
If anyone has any they don’t want then I would like to buy them please! Ideally I need in the region of 20 but any would be good.
Thanks

Lardo

I had a few of these BITD too :)

just a word of warning, copy everything off them quick,
as the 'side2' goes backwards to the cotton cloth cleaner inside the 51/4" case, so
basically all the crap caught in it then end up coming out when playing other flip side :(

i copied all mine to normal,

can mind also making them myself with a stanley knife and some cardboard to make
extra hole on other side... 8)

Thanks!
Can’t quite get my head around whether it will still be an issue if used in a double sided drive (its late and I still sorting boxes after moving house)? I will most likely be using them as CPM discs which are not flipped over.

I was a regular buyer of banana discs, they must have advertised in the Micro User.
Is my memory playing tricks or did they smell of bananas (a marketing gimmick) ? Or maybe the plastic had a strong smell.

I can’t honestly remember but that kind of thing was cool to do in the 80’s so maybe! I have fond memories of sniffing copies of Strawberries by the Damned. Although to be honest they didn’t really smell of strawberries.
The discs I have now don’t smell of anything pleasant now. [-X

My dad had a bunch (!) of these; he wouldn't let me anywhere near them. I had to make do with Parrot and the like (I've still got my old Parrot floppy drive box, though I have no idea how the discs inside are doing, nearly thirty years later).

Presumably two extra holes - an extra index hole and an extra write protect notch. Was anything else special about them? Yellow plastic sleeve maybe? I am just wondering if one could create something similar by printing a bunch of coloured labels (and the cut-outs if you must).

I have vague memories that they came in a nice happy yellow box as well.

Finally happened across a box of these on eBay which were sold as unused. They look to be in pretty good condition so it may be the case.
