Electron & other Acorn ASCII

Post by aerworuld » Wed Sep 23, 2015 7:18 pm

Dear all!

Do you have any piccies of any text art you've done on your Elks (or any other Acorn or even another 8-bit)?

I've started a new page on my site and it would be nice if folks sent in some piccies!

Alas, no. I only discovered ASCII art when reading "help" files and such like on my Atari STFM (maybe on some PD disks).

Then later on when I had a IBM compatable PC I found more as I discovered the Internet.

Of course, looking back now, the computer network (based on 300 and 1200 baud RS232 and modem links) where I work, back in the late 1980's did print out what could be loosely termed ASCII art (sort of) on Philips 80 column thermal printers... But I did not know it was called ASCII art, let alone considered it "art". And I did get an 'O' level in art at school #-o

@Mark It's odd how we look at the same things then and now; nostalgia gives such a beautiful light to things!

@Martin love it! thank you :-) that's going on the website. #SquirrelsRuleOK

It looks like I once created this with my Atom:

Code: Select all

                                         .----.
                                      ,"' "*
      + .+$$$+, ." \ '.
   .+%%%%%%%%%%%%%+, / ) \
  +%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%+) / "--*-+" .
.+%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%+) . +
(%%%/\%/\%%%%%/\%%%%%%) ! @ @ *
 '"' ) "(%%%" "" -. *
    ./ (@ @) """") ( ) )
   6/ (_ _) "-. ( "- . _)
  6% )%6 \ "-.____.-" /

      ,***/*****\ (%%(_( ) ))_)) \,.______)+.__/
     /__M/__MMM__\ 'ZZ' *---*" "

And the attached file printed a smurf in condensed mode on a dot matrix printer.

Both files can easily be converted to BBC Basic...
