Pernod's Arcade Game Collection

Post by Pernod » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:59 pm

Arcade Games Vol.1

I believe all titles were transferred from tape including loading screens. The only changes would be those required to run from disc, so should be as close as possible to the original release.

The copy of 3D Bomb Alley will be the disc version as I have the original also. I probably used this as a template when transferring the other Software Invasion titles from tape.

I believe all titles were transferred from tape including loading screens. The only changes would be those required to run from disc, so should be as close as possible to the original release.

The Living Daylights was developed by Matthew Atkinson (Repton 3, etc.), the image QROOM was drawn by me!

Here's my notes found in -.IMPACT:
IMPACT! was deprotected by Barnsy in Jan.88. Hello to Westy,Spam,Rik and Captain Pugwash. Did you know that if you press SHIFT+ESCAPE on the hi-score table you enter a cheat mode. This allows you to advance screens by pressing 'J' during a game.

I guess "Adult Entertainment" (did the BBC have any of that???)
Slo wrote:Hi pernod and a big thank you for all the great software you have posted here
I second that =D>

Got my tapes & discs to work through (have SLOWLY started) but eyeballing the titles that you've posted so far, you've got more than me! Still it will be fun to download these and give them a whirl - and see what (if any) differences there seem to be in any titles that are in both our collections (and the others posted here like Michael Brown's.)

Hi Pernod,
The disks you have posted here are amazing.

Hi Richard,
This is exactly why everyone should post their disks and tape images here... so we can compare who has the best and most complete versions of the games available.

Most of the games in my collection have been transferred from tape images but sadly some are disk copies. It is these disk copies that I for one need to compare with other peoples disks as there can sometimes be a loading screen that was missing or even some simple instructions (even those written by a hacker) that explain the game!. I have already found several instances of this and have amended my disks accordingly and will re-post them at some point.

Keep up the good work everyone.

At the moment I am checking through hundreds of old 40 and 80 track disks and comparing them (where they still work and don't clog the drive heads!) with what has already been put out. Not found any new games but I have found some loading screens and some instructions typed in from cassette inlays which are long gone. (More disks to amend!).

Thanks to Sweh and Pernod I have found several games that I have never seen before and will incorporate these into some gaps I have in restoring my next set of disks which I hope to post here later in the year.
BTW Disks 081-085 have now been restored and just need checking on both Emulators and my real BBC.

Thanks Pernod for finding Enigma, Zuyder Zee, Tomb Of Syrinx, Flying Sorcerer and Pyron Slayer.

Mick.

Include yourself in that! =D>

I'm VERY late to the game, and my collection doesn't seem to be close to matching some of these other ones  , but I'll do my best. I've certainly got a lot of packaging/instructions, but I was definitely mostly in the mainstream - Acornsoft & Superior, so most of that on the web already.

From what I've seen, there's also an interest in raw, with-protection-still-intact tape and disc images (plus instructions/packaging). (No-one seems to like my literal .raw sound files, though! Even though a real Master and BBC B like them.)

It's fun to go through the old protection schemes and see if the grey matter is any sharper now than it was years ago (in my case, it's ALL been downhill! ) I'm also interested in games that don't work on the Master - having a look to see if I can figure out WHY (as in, can I match it to what I've read on the subject so far. Not suggesting I'm doing any wonderful original research, just original to me!)

In the last few days I've got my BBC B and OpenBSD laptop talking via serial ports, so I'm pretty close to getting stuff off my old discs. I know there are more modern ways (I'm also looking at DataCentre and UPURS) but I am enjoying finding out about serial ports and ssd images etc., etc., etc.

Like many of you on these forums, though, $DAY_JOB + $LIFE = $VERY_LITTLE_FREE_TIME!

LOL, wrong guess, it's a little more obvious than that. But yes the BBC did have adult stuff. I have a disc full of dodgy animations and Sex Invaders, etc. but for some reason it didn't get dumped when I did the rest of the discs over 10 years ago. I seem to have quite a few discs that weren't dumped, some still protected, so I'll have to dig out the floppy drive and see if I still have a PC capable of using it.

I don't know if there's anything on the BBC PD discs that would "count" towards these lesser-known gaming collections!
