eBay have announced that from 3 March 2019, private sellers will get 1,000 free listings per month. Expect to see an avalanche of absurd and LOL listings from then on.
There is so much wonder in the universe; why should you want to imagine that there is more?

£999. Wow. I just put a fully refurbished Spectrum on eBay for £50. Maybe I need to add a case and increase the price somewhat?

eBay seller wrote:
  • All electrolytic capacitors were changed for new ones, top quality, bigger capacity, with higher thermal range
  • New ceramic capacitors
  • 47nF capacitors were changed for 1000nF
  • VideoRAM, ROM, Z80 CPU and ULA processor were all inserted in sockets for easy replace/repair/removal
  • VideoRAM 4116 modules changed for newer 5-volts-only type 4416
  • As plenty of known ZX Spectrum problems was caused by the heat radiating from the voltage stabiliser heatsink, the original 7805 stabiliser was replaced by new, upgraded one (Murata Power Solutions, OKI-78SR-5/1.5-W36-C DC-DC converter). This one does not radiates heat at all!
  • As the motherboard is the original “Issue 3” version, the voltage converter has been upgraded to match the newer “Issue 6” version of the board.
  • Original ROM has been exchanged for the newest EPROM version, so there won’t be any trouble with newer type of accessories (like SDcard readers, DivIDE, Beta disk interface etc.) which the original ROM had problems with.
  • New LM1889 – TV video modulator chip.
  • Cinch video output mod – so the ZX Spectrum video can be easily displayed on modern TVs in better quality then over the RF modulator. (Nothing has been changed inside, so returning back to RF modulation is a 2-minutes work if needed – please see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oFMaI7nqPU .)
  • The corroded original power connector has been replaced with a new one.
You don’t need to fit top quality, bigger capacity, with higher thermal range electrolytic capacitors if you have fitted a switching regulator/DC-DC converter. The same capacity, normal temperature range capacitors will do just fine...

Unless the existing ones are actually damaged, there is no need to fit new ceramic capacitors...

There is no need to remove working chips and put them in sockets...

47nF capacitors were changed for 1000nF - this is only needed for the four 12V rail decoupling capacitors with the original 4116 DRAM chips. The others don’t need doing.

The 4416 DRAM chips are not much younger than the 4116 DRAM chips

The original ROM chips were very reliable. And there has never been an official bug fixed ROM... Third party ROMs are not compatible with all games... Some original ROM chips were a bit slow (to tri-state their data outputs) so maybe that’s why he/she/they changed it.

The number of "chancer" refurbers is quite disturbing. It's worse in the amiga scene where people seem to offer cap replacement services after having watched an 8mm cinefilm of someone arc welding steel plates on a ship's hull and then going on to invest in a 6" nail with a mains plug attached to it.

I had this made for my early (fairly) issue one Spectrum:-

Given that his Spectrum is only worth about one hundred pounds tops that means his case must be worth nine hundred! Mine has museum grade uv resistant anti-reflection glass so it feels like quite the bargain now!

This auction caught my eye, given my interest (much documented on here) in the PMS second processor for the Electron. It's the only one I have ever seen on Ebay. However the BIN price is somewhat startling...!

You'd think for £999 they could have found a better solution for mounting it than cable ties!

I thought the 1200 one now at 849 was overpriced but this one is marked as untested and no plus 3 psu...

£649 seems a tad optimistic but they have probs seen price of other one =D>

I sent him a note to let him know it was overpriced (and that it's just a keyboard and not a computer), and he called me an idiot and told me that he's sold another one at £160 before.

So good luck to him I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My question is: How is he posting a £649.95 (I see knocking off the 5p makes it ever so more attractive  ) piece of kit for £2.95

This means I have over £3000 worth of kit, kicking around

Does seem a bit steep even for an opening offer on a Buy It Now + Offer sale... 25% more than you want for it seems like a good position then negotiate. £650 is a long way to come down from you'd get a nosebleed up there.

Its the postage that always gets me on these. I would never post without full compensation and £3 does not offer that!

As I said on FB - I don't think I'd ever seen that "BBC Master" release of it - so that really is rare. The elk one was pretty common back in the day. Not as common as view/viewsheet, but pretty common as it was being sold for pennies.

Who knows though, perhaps it isn't lolprice. It certainly made me raise my eyebrows!

Yes, but that was the Master one complete with manual. Same software, same cartridge, different box.

Not being a games player, I haven't played LISP. Who has the high score?
