Hello :)

Post by Back2skooldaze » Sun May 13, 2018 12:41 pm

Hi i am Andrew- I go by the username Back2skooldaze or Backtoskooldaze and i collect 1980's computers and consoles right up to the latest consoles! At the moment i am hooked on the ps4 vr headset and i use my samsung s7 edge with vr headset for watching movies on netflix.
I have always had a passion for connecting old 8 bit computers and 16 bit computers to online to get access to bbs sites.

I have 2 lantronix devices 1 being a lantronix UDS-10 and the other a lantronix UDS1100.They both do exactly the same thing which is to emulate a modem and i can connect a computer using its serial connection to my ethernet/network then i can telnet out to bbs sites.
So now i have dug my bbc out and also bought a nice setup from RetroClinic and i've bought another data centre to put in to my original bbc i have lots of new learning and i got loads of manuals to read through. My passion is to connect my bbc to my lantronix and telnet to a bbs site.I also have an old pace pocket modem that i will try and hook up to the bbc and see if i can dial out too?
I have recently bought a serial cable from Robert Sprow which works fantastic with DFS Explorer and ADFS Explorer for file and disk transferring. The data centre is a fantastic piece of kit with the usb port which i have a 500GB hard drive connected to and there is the CF card as an hard drive.Coming from the Amiga i have been using CF cards for a long time.So with the bbc using them too its great :) The data centre is the bee's knee's :D
I have joined this forum so i can stop pestering Mark (RetroClinic) with bucket loads of emails and questions.I thought if i come here i can post out what i need to know and someone can be able to tell me what to do? Learning how to use the bbc again is mind boggling with * commands for almost everything
Anyway i thought i'd give you a bit of back ground on who i am and how i love retro computers and now i'm back in to the bbc i can learn lots of new stuff.

Thanks for reading :) Andrew

Welcome. There are numerous threads floating around here for connecting stuff up to the serial port, be it an old modem or a modern WiFi card (about 3 different methods last time I checked).
