Gotek case
I am looking for a case for my Gotek drive. I have looked on e-bay etc but cannot see any for sale. I have seen them for sale in a case so they must exist.
BBC Master 512, Music 5000, Gotek Drive.
Re: Gotek case
Do you mean a 3D printed case? Or some sort of metal or injection moulded case?
Some where there is a thread where I ended up in the 3D printing world just to case my gotek. (Edit: link to me wanting a gotek case and ending up owning two 3D printers, viewtopic.php?f=11&t=17865)
I also added a 3D printed section, including gotek, OJ the hardware list in the link below, but there are many more on thingiverse.

Re: Gotek case
I have recently been pondering the same as I'd like to add a Gotek to my Master Compact but don't want to have to use the massive monitor base all the time.
It will likely be a long time until I get around to sorting this out (currently going through my pile of Arc disks to get my A3010 set up as it was 25yrs ago), but here's what I found:
- There is an Italian seller on eBay with a couple of 3D printed designs aimed at Amiga owners. The print quality doesn't look amazing.
- A few people have put Goteks inside external drives for BBC/Amiga/Atari computers. The cost of external drives is pretty high though, so this doesn't look like a viable option unless you find one cheaply.
- Mounting internally is an option, but I don't want to modify my Master Compact as it's in lovely condition. If you have a Beeb or a Master though, then there is someone on eBay selling brackets that fit in the Beeb "ashtray" or the Master cartridge slot. I have no idea if they are any good though, but do look smart.
My current plan is to buy a suitable project box from Farnell or similar and put the Gotek board inside that, since I'd want to add a rotary encoder and OLED screen anyway.

Re: Gotek case
If you find a suitable project box then definitely post it here, I think when I look several years ago I couldn’t find one quite the right size, they tend to be too small or way to big. Hence I ended up 3D printing mine.
Re: Gotek case
In fairness to the gotek, apart from the jumper pins they're pretty self contained - not too much to poke your fingers into!

Re: Gotek case
Some of us have to case everything.

But if you have several and want to stack them they don’t stack well in the default config, well not with wires all over the jumpers.

Old Amiga drives are probably the best source. Although, @davehhitchins might have some ideas about getting something made with powder coated steel?Dave C wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 7:43 pmThis is what I am after. It say's it it metal and looks just the job.

Re: Gotek case
The real problem I had, when I had the various cases made for Electron projects, was the quantity. I ended-up ordering around 500 cases in total! Probably could get away with a 100 but then the costs go up! I believe there should be enough of the powder paint left for maybe 200 to 300.danielj wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 7:53 pmOld Amiga drives are probably the best source. Re: Gotek case
I have a new stair case steel powder coated in cream at the moment, I wonder if they do metal gotek cases ...
I think gotek 3D printed cases worked out a couple of quid. If some one could do them for at least half the price I might be interested but not at £110, more than I paid for the Beebs and gotek put together.

Re: Gotek case
I would be interested in a couple of cases if a run was to go ahead. Either 3D printed or metal at a reasonable price.
Another wish would be for a retro styled cheese wegde case (e.g. 2nd processor) for raspberry pi zero.

Yep, like that. Also add a LED “on” indicator and on\off switch for completeness.Elminster wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 1:30 pmLike this one?

Re: Gotek case
The cases I had made for the Electron peripherals worked out at about £10 each. A quantity of 100 maybe about £15. If it's of any use?

Re: Gotek case
Looks like a sensible price for a metal case to me.

Re: Gotek case
I may be on the light side . . . I was thinking of the cases I had made - A Gotek case would be a lot bigger! But we'll not ever know unless someone actually puts pen to paper. Things to bare in mind: KISS Keep It Simple Stupid! e.g. a folded design - no fiddly bits and no welded joints.

Re: Gotek case
I picked up an external Cumana 3.5in drive. Pulled the 3.5in drive out, put a Gotek in its place...
Re: Gotek case
The cases you did were probably a bit more of a tricky shape, not sure if that adds to cost. Might be as much as twice as much volume for a Gotek, but even if that double/trebled the price to £30, would still be considerably cheaper than £110.daveejhitchins wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2020 1:18 pmI may be on the light side . . . And

Twenty of thirty GBPs looks fine.
