B+128 keystrip & upper case

Post by marcusjambler » Sat Mar 17, 2018 7:34 pm

Hi All

I'm looking for B+ 128 keystrip to complete a rebuild [-o<
The upper case would also be very welcome...
The previous owner has attacked the current one with surface altering fluid

I guessed there may not be anything forth coming on these...

I wonder if someone could post a decent photo of the B+ 128 keystrip badge...
Then I can print my own :D

They will be like hens teeth.
I've got a 64k with keystrip & everyone I see of those on ebay only have the regular beeb key strip.

The upper case is same as regular, so that will be easy to get.

If someone has a laser cutter, acrylic sheeting, acrylic cement, hydro dip sheets and a white inkjet printer cartridge, making a modern replacement keystrip would be an interesting project!

I have two to hand and they both have plain clear keystrips over a 128K sticker with two other stickers on the case. They're both a little yellowed but you can see the designs.....

Fair point. I'd forgotten it was a sticker on the 128K version.

I'm surprised it was on the casework, though; I always assumed it was stuck to the underside of the keystrip. Given they seemed to be desperately bodging to get something saleable out the door, I suppose they decided having all three stickers apply in the same way would cut costs.

I guess you knew already but for completeness, the 64K is a specially printed keystrip.....

Martin you have the same proper 64 keystrip as me!

weird if 128 had nothing on it at all, sure Lee cleaned a standard one with Braso & letters came off, then reprint a sticker , sorted \o/

then put tea stains on it, to give it 34yr effect

The B+ seems to be the forgotten Beeb.

Looking good! =D>

Those pictures of mine do over-yellow the background of the stickers a little. The pictures are a mixture from two machines but the one of the six labels (not in the pics because it has a piece missing) hasn't discoloured as much as the others and is nearer to the original Beeb case-colour, maybe just a touch creamier.

I'll maybe be able to renew mine if you publish your end-results... :)

Ah... Yep got you
I'll pick up the colour from the Beeb surface in the photo.
Another request Martin please.
Whats the diagonal measurement of your labels to the inner edge of the narrow black border?

Ok, so these are therefore the diaganol measurements of the rectangular cream area within each sticker. Referring to the first picture I posted of the computer as a whole....

Top left corner of case : 71mm

Right-hand of keystrip : 88mm

Bottom right of black keyboard surround : 24mm

=D> Great work on recreating these badges, well done!

I have to say though, that Acorn's original efforts in badging the B+128 have to rank as the most amateurish-looking thing the company ever did! And I gather that the engineering inside the machine was pretty dodgy as well. Needless to say, that despite these shortcomings (or perhaps because of them) I'd love to have one these machines...

Hahaha Yes... I fully agree

Sadly this is true as well.. Mines pretty flaky... It reports different amounts of SRAM depending on which socket the patched DFS ROM sits in

I've tidied up these badges and made them look pretty good...
However because the background colour is just randomly lifted off the nearby casing my printer is inserting a diffusion pattern to try get the colour right.

Does anyone know what the original RAL/pantone colour spec was for the casing ? [-o<

The colour I've been given for the range of new cases I'm having made is: BS10B17 Oatmeal (the actual number they gave was BS10B17 SG - not sure what the SG stands for, though).

Although this is really a third-hand colour match e.g. Originally taken from an Electron case for the AP3/4 - then wait 30 years - then take a reading from an AP3/4 case . . . I don't have a pristine Electron :?
