You have contributed a significant amount to this forum and are a big advocate of its use, so I wouldn't say mean. :D I was simply concerned that the facts were inaccurate through assumption and conjecture. I've made a post with all of the details I have.

The ribbon must be 4 euros and the male to male adaptor less than 50 cents if you order 10.
The problem here is you don't always know what you're getting, and what you get isn't always what it says it is on the tin even if it behaves like it to all intents and purposes...

Yes I agree ... now don t forget the 'LOL price' or 'LOL description' thread is a place, to me, to privately (inside the space of this forum) chill out.
If you propose your Acorn stuff on this great forum, and not on Ebay, you won't suffer the same treatment ;-)
I understand your perspective, but there are people who don't know about this forum and want to get back into the retro community without paying a premium. I certainly wouldn't want people to restrict sales to stardot. In my personal opinion there is a place for both stardot sales and for those to the wider community via eBay; and from what I've seen with specialist and limited run sales versus those for mass appeal, I think the majority get it right.

Anyway, enough of the politics, I'm interested in what those with more technical knowledge think about the DOM investigation so far.

Agreed.

About the DOMs it is interesting to note that it s been designed to replace hard drives in 'industry conditions' thus there is not the issue with either CF or SD cards not thought to be accessed to on an aggressive basis ...

No, that's really good information and FWIW, I think totally justifies what you're asking for these. Whilst things might seem "simple", it often belies how much efforts gone into identifying and sourcing the correct item!

Hey Zarchos!

For some reason I can't send you a PM, it says you can't receive messages!

I got your messages, thanks! That's great news! Sorry I haven't been on stardot to check your messages, life has been busy.

I've also got a Castle IDE minipodle that uses ADFS.

I couldn't get any version of IDEFS to work with it.

After spending well over £80 on CF cards and adapters I finally found a combination that works.

It has to be the two chip version of CF converters. The cheap new stuff just does not work. I also found that only SanDisk 256MB CF cards from back in the day work.

I've managed to get a dual CF to IDE converter and two 26MB CF cards to give me 512MB split over ADFS 4 and 5. It's more than enough storage.

What would WizzoFS do differently? Even if softloaded from floppy?

Wizzo, softloaded from floppy, worked perfectly happily with my CF-SD adaptor that didn't behave before. I suspect it'd get on with most other things...

On top of improving compatibility, Wizzo also gives the ability to have multiple partitions - I use it in my A4 to give 4 x 500MB partitions on a 2GB CF card.

On the Castle mini-podule without Wizzo, apart from the dual-CF adapter and Sandisk cards, I've only had success with a 2GB DOM. Everything else either failed immediately or gave problems with large files.

Is Wizzo a CJE purchase?

If my CF cards are already ADFS formatted will Wizzo be able to read them? Or do I need to backup and then use the !IDE Format tool to create an IDEFS partition?

I think you should be able to read them from the off?

I think this is correct.

Also, you can setup partitions with Wizzo's IDE formatter and then ADFS will recognise the first one (assuming your hard drive/equivalent works under ADFS).

Podule found!

It could be worth harvesting some of the
Info from this thread to be put in a sticky.
