FS: New Atom Main Board

Post by roland » Wed Jan 07, 2015 7:50 pm

Hi,

I have still one piece of the first batch of new Atom main boards for sale. The board costs €32,00. Shipping costs in Europe are €9,00 without track and trace.

Some people ask me if there is a kit available. The main problem is programming the devices. You need:
  • A Xilinx programmer
  • A PIC programmer
  • An eprom programmer
I can imagine that you're not willing to buy these three programmers for a one or two time use. So I'm offering an additional kit with:
  • Eprom (27128 or 27256 whatever I have available), €2.50
  • Xilinx XC9536XL CPLD (I/O decoder), €1.70
  • Xilinx XC9572XL CPLD (Memory decoder), €3.95
  • Microchip 18F4525 (AtoMMC2 controller), €5.85
  • Godil (incl. shipping from Trenz to Born), €56.90
  • Programming fee, €0.00
  • VAT for those components, €14.90
Total costs of the additional kit: €85.80

These components "fit" into the package of the pcb, so there are no additional shipping costs if this is ordered together with the PCB.

I love to sell some more because I want to have a second batch with the design mistakes corrected. It's quite an amount of money but believe me, you'll get your best Atom ever

Greetings,
Roland

Hi Roland,

I'd be interested in that if I could have an otherwise complete kit without the GODIL. I have one of these but have never had the nerve to install it into my real (and fragile) Atom.

Let me know if that is okay,

Cheers,

Phil Young

Hi Phil,

Of course I can supply a kit without a GODIL. As a matter of fact I don't have a big box full of GODILS over here, so I have to order them when I sell one.

I'll ask Wim and Kees which components they need and I'll order and prepare a kit for you.

If somebody else is interested, please let me know as soon as possible. I will order a new batch of boards which takes about six weeks delivery (or I have to pay an extra €7,00 per pcb then it could be delivered within three weeks).

Greetings,
Roland

Thanks, let me know when you're ready and I'll paypal you as a 'gift' (PM me the details).

No rush, I already have about 101 unfinished projects,

Cheers,

Are there any changes/fixes that you need to make?

There was something that occurred to me a few days ago, but I can't for the life of me remember what is was now. #-o

Yes, the second batch will have some changes, like the two mmc lines (mosi and miso are swapped), the pic is now connected to 3.3 V and another few minor improvements.

Could you list the Mk1 board corrections for me please, so I'll be able to get it going. I forgot to ask, does your board take the WDC 6502 version ?

Cheers,

I'm working on a website with all documentation and that includes also the mods. This website will be announced next week. The early adopters will need it for reference.

The board has jumpers for selecting a WDC6502 cpu. I copied that part from the romram board. You can check it at download/file.php?id=12590&mode=view. Hmmm... I now realize that I have a R65C02 installed with JP2 open #-o That works also fine.

Unfortunately I cannot test it because I cannot get a WDC6502 within a reasonable short time.

I just remembered, but it might not count as a small change....

Is is possible to add some headers that would facilitate connection of the 6502 signals to a logic analyser? 1x20 Pin headers right next to the 6502 socket might not mess up the layout too much.

This evening I have ordered a bunch of components at Farnell. Not only PICs and CPLDs but also the connectors. There are too many different types out there so I have ordered them and I'll adapt the Mk2 board so that I can provide the Farnell order numbers.

Today I have ordered the second batch of five PCB's at Makepcb.com. I also updated the material list. The MK2 boards have several improvements:
  1. Fixed all errors of MK1 boards
  2. Added GODIL extension connector for future use
  3. All component references are placed outside of the component so you can still see them after the components are fitted
  4. Changed audio, cassette and power connector to another type that is available at Farnell
I expect the boards to arrive on the 7th of March. Then I will build one to see if I didn't introduce new errors. I don't expect (m)any problems with them so in week or so it should be completed and then I can ship those boards. There are only three pieces still available. After these are sold I'll upload the gerber files so anybody can order it, however a single board costs about € 70.00.

At that time I expect to have a PS/2 keyboard interface available so you don't have to sacrifice an Atom 8)

There are still four pcb's available. This might be the last batch of MK2 boards because the used CPLD's are end-of-life. So take your chance :!:

Hi roland,
I'm not about often, so I've only just read (with much excitement) your New Atom Mainboad thread - great project by the way.

Do you have any PCB's left? If so may I tentatively put my name down for one? (I'll need to go grovelling to my other half on this one I suspect)
If that's ok I'd also be keen go for the full set of parts and pre-programmed ICs you listed in the first post.

Many thanks,
Charles.
Charlie.

Hello Charles,

I still have a few boards left so one has your name on it :)

Just give me a couple of days to program the cpld's and eprom.

Greetings,
Roland
