Its a disk drive interface for the plus 1/rombox that fits on the back of an elk. Surprised hes asking 70 quid for it if he doesnt know what its for or does or even works which it probably wont seeing as he cant find the power lead for the computer (that old chesnut)
Re: Worth Taking a Look At
It's the Cumana Floppy Disk System, see http://chrisacorns.computinghistory.org ... ystem.html. It's not much use without the utility disk, which is not archived. You can use with the Slogger EDFS though.jms2 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 7:55 pmAnyone know what this Elk expansion unit is? I'm not thinking of buying it, just intrigued.

Thanks Nigel, I had not seen that interface before. Having the cable coming out of the bottom is unusual but neat.

Astonishing

Re: Worth Taking a Look At
crazy price - want to bet we see another auction for Elite soon - 'extremely rare £599 BIN'
Re: Worth Taking a Look At
Crazy money indeed, but that buyer was in it from an hour after it was first listed. No messing around, they wanted it.
I actually came here to mention this new-old-stock export BBC B, serial 02-UNB09-1004784. Most interesting because it is in unassembled condition, but also because it is in Nova Scotia right now. I don't know how often these crop up, but it interested me.
Crazy money again, mind.

Re: Worth Taking a Look At
Nice kit.
Interesting, I don’t recognize the layout. Especially I notice the ROM chips aren’t in the usual position.
What issue number is this?

Berend Vosmer

Re: Worth Taking a Look At
Export model, so not does not have a U.K. board issue number, intended either for the USA or German market (hence the shielding). A lot were either modified for the U.K. market, or as it appears here, sold as DIY conversion kits.

Re: Worth Taking a Look At
Looks like it has the speech chips, which would make it USA, but I could be wrong.
Re: Worth Taking a Look At
Yes - the serial number and case markings indicate it's the US model rather than the German one. They do come up on eBay from time to time - I picked up an example of each recently at more typical Beeb prices. The one thing you really notice is how heavy they are compared to standard Beebs.
Re: Worth Taking a Look At
All things considered, I'd expect an unassembled Beeb in Nova Scotia to be the US specification, rather than the German one.
It appears that the US Model B was marketed in Canada with a $1500 price tag - that's in 1985 money!

hopefully both Elite and the BBC kit will end up in the hands of collectors rather than someone just out to make a profitroobarb! wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 2:07 amCrazy money indeed, but that buyer was in it from an hour after it was first listed. No messing around, they wanted it.

Re: Worth Taking a Look At
I've taken a punt on one - worth it for £33 IMO. I like that they're from liquidated ex-Torch stock. Had one of these in a Master that I let go and have regretted it since. Will go nicely with my rejuvenated 'B"!markjw wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 3:34 pmTorch Z80 2nd processor board - has multiple boards:
