BeebSCSI full size + internal VFS adaptor boards

Post by danielj » Sun Mar 04, 2018 11:19 am

All documentation for BeebSCSI is here: https://www.domesday86.com/?page_id=400
Some brief notes:
It needs 5V - it doesn't get this over the 1MHz bus. It can take this from anywhere - e.g. tube, userport, a wire run out from the motherboard. The middle pin of the three pin header on the board is +5V, the outer two are ground. If it's connected to the VFS board, it gets 5V directly from there.

The Utility ROM is really useful! Download it and use it! :)

Please consider making a donation to Simon's Domesday project (https://www.domesday86.com/) - he's developing loads of stuff to preserve the Domesday project in its entirety and it's all being done entirely off his own back!

I'd be interested in the VFS adaptor alone as I've already got a BeebSCSI...

Nuts, I'll turn this thread into a "want" thread. Price TBC! Thank you for snaffling the "odd" VFS board, Paul :D

Hywei - all spoken for at the moment. I start a second list! (you're in the US - you might find it cheaper to get some boards made and build yourself over there if you're OK with soldering?)

Can those who expressed interest in a VFS board work out whether they need make or female headers - it will depend on whether your master has a socket for the internal scsi or pins...

Hi Daniel, I'm also not exactly sure which this is, it's a white plastic bit on top of a blue plastic bit. Does it look familiar?

Can I add an extra VFS board so which will enable me to have both M+F versions?

You could update me with male and female vfs, if it makes it easier for you.

Does that mean you want a second vfs? That will have to be from the second batch. It doesn't make a difference to me personally, I can attach whichever connector, but there's no point in people getting something they can't use just in case :) my experience suggests most people would need male connectors...

Check and save yourself money! Or I can just send you one of each connector and you can solder on your own?

Hi All,

I know what beebscsi is for, but could someone explain what the internal VFS adaptor is for?

Is this to allow the domesday86 project to work?

Just a note here on the VFS adapters. The blue connector with the white top is the 'standard' (and therefore requires a male pinned adaptor as the socket it female). However, some machines didn't have the header fitted, and some (like marcusjambler's machine) have broken connectors (that one has had the top snapped off) - in some of those machines the header was replaced by a male pin header, or the header is missing completely.

If your connector is broken or missing then I'd recommend you replace it with a male pin header as these are easier to connect to in general and provide a better 'grip' on the adapter board. The only other device I've come across that fits in these sockets is the original AIV SCSI adapter - so the only reason to keep the female connector is for connecting to that (and since you'll also need a Philips VP415 laserdisc player it's unlikely you will ever need to) :)
