Glad you'll be joining us too Ed!

Somebody else likened the first VABug to the radio; if you don't think you'll have much to contribute in a particular meeting you can just have it on 'in the background' whilst you work on your own projects (I spent a lot of the meeting sticking labels on floppy discs I'd duplicated for new Retro Software releases!),.

Can you put me down too :)
Cool, I don't suppose you'll have any updates to share on the RPG? :)
Unfortunately no updates, I've been distracted by other things :) I need to rescue some more space in the binary so I can then add the music code that SarahW sent me.

Hi Simon

Assuming I can stay awake (been working all day, now on a train waiting for it to depart), I’d like to join. I will be mostly lucking though and will be late to the party, joining sometime after 7pm (19:00).

Count me in!

I'd like to share and get feedback on a proposal for the addition of a 'Stardot News'-type page to the main stardot.org.uk domain - which I've just produced a mockup for (no comments in-thread yet please, I'll create a separate thread if/once I've had a chance to get feedback in Thursday's VABug).

Edit - replaced the mockup with a version that features the 'All News' aggregator as a single column - which I prefer (notes to self: could Twitter serve as the news-posting source ... with certain hashtags from designated Twitter accounts picked up and automatically displayed in the appropriate categories?)

Ditch the above mockup as well, I've made the following (completely different!) draft which I'll be sharing instead!

I've been having internet connection (or more specifically disconnection) issues most of the day, so I was surprised I managed to stay on as long as I did.

Once I did lose internet connectivity I didn't try getting back on. It was already well past 'ending' time.

It was very enjoyable, however. I often don't have a lot to contribute, but I do enjoy putting names to faces, and learning what everyone else is doing.

It would be great if at one virtual meetup pixelblip could come along and dazzle us with his drawing techniques. It would be good to see one of his artworks being drawn 'live'.

It seems we had a new member join last night after being invited to ask for help with their new beeb.
I don't think that they though that they could jump in with a question and I was wondering what we could do to make it easier for a new person to ask for help, or even just join in.
For help I guest we could have a specific time slot or two on a weekend. I know the forums are the best place for this, but some people may find it easier if nor less intimidating to point a camera at a beeb and ask "why does it do this?".
I would have loved to have talked to James (?) last night about his game but got the impression that 20 of us strangers "looking" at him may have been off putting.
I really enjoyed last night, but did feel like there was more pressure than with the weekend one. Possibly because I was more conscious of time, not having the whole day to wait for a lul to chip in.
I don't feel like breaking off to a separate room as I feel that I will miss something, like I miss 90% at a physical ABUG.
See you all at the next one :)

I had a think about this last night. As we may be moving towards three separate sessions at the next weekend call (which will be a 9am till 9pm alldayer) with a designated moderator for each... I'd suggest it should be the moderators responsibility to clock when brand new users join for the first time, and then verbally welcome/introduce them to the group at the earliest convenient opportunity. Obviously it wouldn't have to be immediately when they enter, as that might annoy whoever is currently speaking I.e
if they get cut off whenever someone new joins.

I think it would be helpful if the list of attendees could highlight who are newcomers so that the moderator could introduce and welcome them during the session.

I also think it would be helpful if the list could highlight those who want help repairing things (whether n00bs or not). Even at a real ABUG, it is somewhat intimidating to ask someone to help with a fix. Again, we could get the moderators to announce who needs help fixing something. I would love to see a team fault diagnosis session.
There is so much wonder in the universe; why should you want to imagine that there is more?

Maybe we could have one or two 10 minute slots at known times where everyone just says hi and what they are interested in, or pass if they prefer.

I think that's a really good idea - 2 x 10 min slots should be easy enough to factor into the schedule ...

I was really fortunate to have been on this call.

When I signed on I recognized many faces that I had seen in pictures of other ABUG events. For anyone that's followed those pictures online on the forum, they could quite easily have a sense of who everyone is but I agree with the idea of a couple of short stints to introduce everyone, especially on a small ABUG like the Thursday one.

I just want to say what a great friendly bunch you all are and it's such a pleasure to know you.

I think the session went really well though i would have liked to entertain you with my lack of hardware knowledge and how I might proceed with fixing my A3000 if it's even possible. Perhaps that can happen at one of the next few ABUGs......

Nice job of moderating guys.....

I'm not sure if it fits with the schedule, but it seems that if people could put their name down for a slot, maybe 5 minutes, to describe their problem/fault that it wouldn't feel so awkward to "butt in" with their problem.
There are quite a few members that wouldn't mind listening and a few that could helpfully comment, but having a slot or two that could be booked in advance at each end of a general section, would hopefully balance being reluctant to ask vs interrupting the meeting.
Just my thought anyway.
Would it also be good to list when you express interest, what your interests are - did we do this anyway? (my memory!) even though it will be repeated in the introduction sections?
