BCPL System Disc

Post by Coeus » Sun Jan 14, 2018 8:38 pm

After expanding the SSD of a BCPL system disc into a directory on VDFS I noticed that it now seemed to have more files in than it did originally. I went to check against the list in the manual and also found the file EXMP3B file missing and even going back to the original SSD it is still not there.

The BCPL system disc has 31 files on it as originally supplied and what I think has happened is that someone has decided EXMP3B, being an example program, isn't that useful and that a copy of the ROM for loading into sideways RAM would be a more useful way to use the 31st file. In use this may indeed be so but as searching for this disc found only the one embedded in Wouter's ROM archive, and that has the same missing file and is no doubt where I got my current SSD from, I am a little concerned as to whether a proper copy, i.e. with the set of files originally distributed, has been archived somewhere.

That's odd, well, I did have an original of BCPL and the other discimages I made of originals as I saw them first when I acquired the originals, but I made the discimage of BCPL disk from a copy years arlier and I think used the non-original disk that I got some time in the late 1990s for that...
