Missing Micro User scans

Post by Michael Brown » Tue Dec 03, 2019 8:29 am

Hi All,
I would like to add any missing instructions for Micro User games to my discs, however, there are a few exceptions with The Micro User/Acorn Computing scans on the 8 bit web page where scans of the magazines do not exist.

It may even be that the games still missing instructions may have been tape/disc extras with that issue and no instructions were included in the mag.
Below is a list of the games and issues that I would like to check through.

Blocbusta 9.04
Klect 10.12
Power Raider 10.7
Connect four/Make Four 9.01
Time Lapsed 10.05
Snake & Snake 2 both 10.07
Battleships 10.06
and Knight Game/Knight's Journey 12.13?

Thanks in advance for any help with these.
BTW if you have any of these mags, but cannot scan or take a photo of the instructions, then please could you at least confirm that the instructions are included or not.

Mick.

I acquired scans of all the Micro User and Acorn Computing mags from acornelectron.co.uk a while ago but I can't put my hands on them right now, and I won't be able to for a few weeks at least.

I wonder if anyone else has copies..?

Hi Col,
Power Raider is on 10.07 along with the Snake games. It was probably only issued on the disc and not printed in the mag like so many others.
Not to worry, if nothing exists, then so be it, but it least we know.

regards,
Mick.

EDIT: Found some Instructions for Power Raider on 8BS disc20 from Aug 1992.
I will add them to my disc asap.

I have the text of the article that went with Make Four/Connect Four. (I actually have the text for 31 games or other programs from Micro User (and one from Acorn User) but apart from this one (and Bloc Busta) none of them are on the list of those you are looking for. The ones I have are some that I thought (in 1995) might suit my daughter at the age she then was, so are mainly child-oriented.)

I can't remember exactly why I have things in this format. I suspect I wanted a memory-efficient way of keeping the information, so I just OCRed the items I wanted and stored them as word processor files rather than pictures.

These are all in Ami-Pro format, because that was the word processor I had on my PC at the time, but it shouldn't take me too long to convert them to something better-known today if people think it worth doing.

Where is the best place to put them if I do so?

Yeah, it would, but if converting is a problem then a photo will do as we are only typing in a few instructions.
I have typed in hundreds of magazine and book listings over the last few months so this won't be a problem! :D

Here's Acorn Computing vol.12 No.9:

Page 79, object 230.jpg

There’s nothing about Knight(s) (Game) in Acorn Computing vol.12 No.13, which is on 8bs.com.

Thank you so much for Knights game.
The game was on both 12.09 and 12.13 discs, but it looks like the info for it was only in the earlier mag.

Hi All,

Does anyone have a scan of Micro User/Acorn Computing 11.11 from Dec 1993 with any additional info for The Paragon?

There is some text in issue 11.12 for the extra screens, so I assume there is some for the main game.

regards,
Mick.

I have a copy of that issue and I can't find any reference to The Paragon (not sure what this is, a game?), sorry.

Hi,
Yes The Paragon is a game. It is included on the Disc. Any text for it may be in the BBC PD section of the mag.
There is a lot of text in 11.12 about the 2 extra screens, so I assume there is text about the game in 11.11.
The game does have some instructions with it, but I am just wondering if there is any additional info for it.

Also, there is a game called Pirate's Gold on 11.01 from March 1993 and I was just wondering if there is any instructions printed for that too.

regards,
Mick.

Hi,

After having a look through a few discs, I found a few more Acorn Computing games that could benefit from some extra instructions (if there were any).

These are...

Black Widow II 12.08
Heat Seeker 11.08
Mecha Worm 10.08
3D Maze 11.07
A day at the races 11.08
and
Fives and Threes 11.05

regards,
Mick.

Mecha Worm on 10.08 - there's no such game according to the magazine but it sounds like Myriapod, see below:
