Help OCRing magazine listings

Post by leenew » Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:52 am

Hi,
Does anyone have the time and skills to OCR the following listings from "Personal Software Spring '83" magazine?
It can be found here: https://computerarchive.org/files/compu ... 0software/
We need the following games:

Ultima
St. George and the Dragon
Gomoku
Mars Lander
The Maze
Life

Thank you

Lee.

why is this a repeat of other thread :?

If you followed my link before , I said I had already found my original mag in the old spectrum site from Jan2014.

I have all pages of the original mag (in the flesh so to speak)
& still have the jPeg pic files being 48mb from the now defunct site, will up in a mo....

Lee, you can type them in though

Col, the point is that I *don't* want to type them in
I would like someone to OCR the listings and magically spit out the working games... :D

think the scans (jPeg) pics I found are better than those Pdf files , even though they are double the size :?

*someone* may have to type them in, as sure DaveB/hoglet typed in some Atom adventure games, then I found the tape 4yr later

sure I did type a few in BITD from that mag, but flip knows what tape/disc they are on nowadays... :(

OK Col, if nobody volunteers to have a go at the OCR by Sunday evening, I will start typing in GOMOKU AND MARS LANDER on Monday.

Ok, I volunteer to run the JPGs through the OCR program. Can I leave you to cross-check the result against the original listing?

Just in case they are better...

The version at https://computerarchive.org/files/compu ... 0software/ already has a PDF text layer so it should just be a case of copy/paste into a text file, correct any errors and then *EXEC it.

Copying and pasting just gives garbage.
It's OK, I will type them in.
I have typed dozens of missing games in recently so a few more won't hurt

I think I must have picked a lucky line. Looking at the rest of the text layer on Ultima you're right - it is so inaccurate as not be any faster to correct it than re-type. I did try OCRing again from the image but I don't get any better results.

Yeah, nothing's ever simple
I had a bit of time spare this evening so I have typed in "St. George and the Dragon".
It's not great :D

I have now typed in all the games from the 1983 Spring edition of Personal Software, so no need for the OCRing.
Just debugging them now.....
