Well . . . There are games available, but I'm not the one to list the top 10. I played, and really enjoyed (as it didn't involve too much coordination!), Lemmings !

For an A3010, hmm. Most of the good games are conversions, which are generally played as well if not better on other machines, but there are a handful of good originals.

A lot of Acorn games like Dungeon really annoyed me, because they could have been awesome but just... weren't. They were impressive technical achievements, but the game itself was pretty meh.

I actually agree. I put it in the list because I did play it all the way to the end after I’d bought it. But even at the time I could see that the game design didn’t really stack up compared to Dungeon Master or equivalent dungeon RPGs on other platforms.

The problem was, of course, that because the Arc wasn't a big market, most homegrown games were exactly that - homegrown, written by people who were technically very clever, but not so strong in games design. Arc software houses couldn't exactly afford big teams.

Hence why a lot of games had programmer graphics. One that springs to mind was Carnage Inc - a commendable attempt at a side-scrolling beat-em-up (IIRC) but it looked awful, to the point where you'd be embarrassed to show it off to your Amiga owning friends.

Another couple of good games spring to mind, but they were both conversions:

Carnage Inc had isometric graphics. Perhaps you're thinking of Grievous Bodily 'ARM?

To be fair, some professional Amiga and DOS games from the same era don't exactly have great graphics either, or they haven't aged very well.

I'm not aware of any homebrew games for RISC OS 3.1x in recent years, there are some for RISC OS 5.

I'd forgotten about Inferno and Overload! Played those for hours, I'm a sucker for a good puzzle game. Burn 'Out was a favourite too.

On a slightly related note I've had your ViewFinder patches installed since I got my Viewfinder - but that's a utility, not a game

Roughly sorted by "time spent playing" (I think I played all of them on an A3000, so should be fine on an A3010). Maybe I'm the only one who never got into playing Elite, neither on the CPC nor on the Archimedes.

Despite wasting an incredible amount of time playing stuff, I can only do a Top 9 of original games...a shame. There was really a lot of crap back then.
