Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
For an A3010, hmm. Most of the good games are conversions, which are generally played as well if not better on other machines, but there are a handful of good originals.
Original games :
Chocks Away
Stunt Racer 2000
Star Fighter 3000
Spheres of Chaos
Cataclysm
Conversions :
Lemmings (1 & 2)
Flashback
Elite
Cannon Fodder
Populous
Speedball II
Digging through my disc boxes for games I could genuinely recommend was a bit of a depressing experience!

Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
there are no "real arcade" conversions from early80' like on BBC MASTER ? (Frogger, Astroblaster, Phoenix...)
Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
I'm not sure about the TOP games, though my favourites included Axis and Twinworld, as well as Ballarena by the French publisher, Sisteme.

A lot of Acorn games like Dungeon really annoyed me, because they could have been awesome but just... weren't. They were impressive technical achievements, but the game itself was pretty meh.

I actually agree. I put it in the list because I did play it all the way to the end after I’d bought it. But even at the time I could see that the game design didn’t really stack up compared to Dungeon Master or equivalent dungeon RPGs on other platforms.Naomasa298 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 12:16 pmA lot of Acorn games like Dungeon really annoyed me, because they could have been awesome but just... weren't. Leaving out ports from the Amiga, these are ones that spring to mind:
Elite
Chocks Away
Stunt Racer 2000
Star Fighter 3000
Axis
Apocalypse
Spheres of Chaos
Zarch
Conqueror
SunBurst
Nevryon
Interdictor
Saloon Cars (although IIRC my A3000 struggled with this)
Aldebaran
MoonQuake/MarsQuake
Hamsters and DinoSaw were also silly fun.

Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
The Last Ninja conversion was excellent (if you liked the Last Ninja!)

Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
Well, some of my favourites were:
Elite
Small
Starfighter 3000
Quark
X-Fire
Cataclysm
Wavelength
There are others like:
Lotus Turbo Challenge
Lemmings
Populous
Super Methane Brothers
Paradroid 3000
but they're just ports from other systems (usually the Amiga)

Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
The problem was, of course, that because the Arc wasn't a big market, most homegrown games were exactly that - homegrown, written by people who were technically very clever, but not so strong in games design. Arc software houses couldn't exactly afford big teams.VectorEyes wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 3:43 pmI actually agree. Hence why a lot of games had programmer graphics. One that springs to mind was Carnage Inc - a commendable attempt at a side-scrolling beat-em-up (IIRC) but it looked awful, to the point where you'd be embarrassed to show it off to your Amiga owning friends.
Another couple of good games spring to mind, but they were both conversions:
Heimdall
Xenon 2
Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
Carnage Inc had isometric graphics. Perhaps you're thinking of Grievous Bodily 'ARM?Naomasa298 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 9:50 pmHence why a lot of games had programmer graphics. To be fair, some professional Amiga and DOS games from the same era don't exactly have great graphics either, or they haven't aged very well.

Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
I'm not aware of any homebrew games for RISC OS 3.1x in recent years, there are some for RISC OS 5.

Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
I'm disappointed nobody has suggested E-Type!
SF3000 is on my to-play list, and I'm waiting for a copy of Chocks Away to turn up for sale...

Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
I'd forgotten about Inferno and Overload! Played those for hours, I'm a sucker for a good puzzle game. Burn 'Out was a favourite too.IanJeffray wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 2:44 pmE-Type was great, even on Arm2.

On a slightly related note I've had your ViewFinder patches installed since I got my Viewfinder - but that's a utility, not a game

Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
Roughly sorted by "time spent playing" (I think I played all of them on an A3000, so should be fine on an A3010). Maybe I'm the only one who never got into playing Elite, neither on the CPC nor on the Archimedes.
Despite wasting an incredible amount of time playing stuff, I can only do a Top 9 of original games...a shame. There was really a lot of crap back then.

I actually really enjoyed Apocalypse from 4D.
And while it wasn't exactly a game, 3D Construction Set from Domark was cool.

Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?
They’ve probably forgotten about them

When I last asked about releasing them via JASPP I believe not enough time had passed since they were originally released. 24 years is surely enough time?
