missing archived games / Grievous Bodily Arm

Post by garfield » Sat Nov 21, 2020 11:14 pm

Hi all,

Some Archimedes games like Lemmings and Chocks Away seem to be easily available on the web in ADF floppy image format. Others are non-existant such as Grievous Bodily Arm.

Is the reason merely due to imaging from physical floppies never took place? :?:

Thanks.

Due to licencing. 4D games are not free.

Ownership passed on to APDL (after CJE sold the 4D software line to them) -- which means it's pretty well tied up after David Holden's passing.

In general terms, there was historically a lot of resistance (from a number of people) "back in the day". Emulation got conflated with piracy, tempers ran high, and a lot of stuff which could have been archived or imaged... wasn't. There are projects and people trying to get this stuff together, track down authors and copyright holders, but it's a heck of a job.

Fear not, most games are now imaged and archived under JASPP. Near enough all of the "The Fourth Dimension" titles are also packaged for PackMan and work on the Pi.

As pointed out though, until I'm given permission to release them publicly, they're only available to ADFFS beta testers to allow ADFFS development testing.
