'Magic dot' very simple game written in BASIC

Post by dhg2 » Wed Apr 05, 2017 11:49 pm

Hi,

Since I've been learning BASIC over the past year or so, I thought it would be fun to try writing a game. So I made this on and off in my spare time over the past two months or so. It's very much inspired by the simple public domain games I played on my family's A3010 when I was young.

You control a yellow dot, and the goal is to collide with the red squares and avoid the blue ones.
It's not terribly exciting, but still, I thought I'd post it.

Nice idea for a game and nicely done with score, lives and I like the addition of the extra life block.

The dot speeds up really fast making for some quick reflexes to get it under control again.

Good effort and good to see people still interested in writing Basic =D>

On my first go I scored 35026.

Not a bad little game.
I'm writing a game where you can change your character from a Wizard to a monkey to a cat.

Well, Imogen that!

To be extra evil and frenetic, add a time limit!

He He, I really like this :D
Although I think I may have a heart attack if I play it for more than a few minutes

Good work =D>

Don't worry, it's totally fine.

Yeah, that could be cool as part of an increased difficulty mode. Another thing I might do is draw a border around the edges of the screen/play field - I've noticed that as it is right now, it can be a bit unclear, especially on some TVs or monitors.

Great little game, got an eerie otherworldly feel to it like the dot is alive.

It has a real charm, and I like the minimalist sound effects. I think this would have easily got published as a type-in by a magazine BITD. I scored only 22625 though. :-(

I like the simple physics of it.

Mind if I add a routine to play it with my digital joystick? (Or perhaps you may care to. I found out how when making my own program: viewtopic.php?t=11512#p145955 )

It's not crap and it actually works, so it would have easily broken the type-in market.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that. I had that sort of thing on my mind while I was working on it.

That's totally fine. If you do get around to doing that, post it here - I'd be interested in trying it myself.
