Looks really good - the movement feels obviously different in the three environments.

That's fantastic! The best looking Beeb game I've ever seen. And it's only using MODE 5!
And the jumping physics looks spot on. That's somewhere where platform games often let themselves down.

Insanely Excellent Kelvin
!!
Have to keep reminding myself this is running on an Electron ! (think I said the same thing for Elementum !)

That's great. Collected 3 round yellow circles. Too much of a duffer to get the key.

Re: Electrobots - new game for Elk/Beeb/Master
Just realised you can switch between zones (1/2/3)!
Absolutely brilliant.

Well I'm hooked !
Tried BBC and Elk versions, couldn't tell the difference (as per Elementum). Love the interplay between zones and the different characteristics of the robots.
No bugs found !..... yet

Re: Electrobots - new game for Elk/Beeb/Master
Just noticed this and had a quick play (about an hour!). I would definitely have bought this BITD, it's fantastic and precisely the sort of game I enjoy. Congratulations!
I'll have to download ClockSignal now and try the Elk version!

Very good - 3600 points achieved
Animation is lovely and smooth with big sprites and no flicker. I like the different locomotion styles between the levels it feels very different.

- Space level might be a little too floaty - if it's going to require precision it might get annoying.
- Sometimes (yup intermittent issue
) when you fall off the moving platform in the "land" screen the robot seems to have some remaining speed and falls very fast. Although I'm not able to reliably reproduce it.
- It's not immediately obvious what the question mark blocks do (or indeed what the difference between the coins and the diamonds is).
- It is possible to get trapped with the space diamond if you change robot after gaining access to it. (See picture)
- Not sure I'm convinced by the enemies firing at you. Going through walls seems odd and that they can fire in any direction. Having said that they probably don't fire enough - didn't realise that some of them did for a while - unless there's a mechanism I'm missing here.
- I was promised a fire button on the title screen
Re: Electrobots - new game for Elk/Beeb/Master
Thanks Chris! Also for giving me constructive feedback. I think I can address a few of them already.ChrisB wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 7:36 amVery good - 3600 points achieved

* fall off platform bug. I'm very interested in that and wonder if you could reproduce (and capture) it. Will try also.
* getting trapped with space diamond. Is now fixed
* enemies firing. Some rooms are marked as "danger zone". Enemies will fire after a random pause. I haven't decided yet whether walls will block enemy bullets.
* fire button. This is functional (in the final game) but requires you to find a certain item first

Re: Electrobots - new game for Elk/Beeb/Master
I have just played the demo, and like everyone else I am very impressed! I love the idea that you can play the three levels in parallel with each other rather than sequentially. My kids tell me that the modern online games they play have this kind of feature, so I can see you're bringing modern game design features to the Beeb. This is a great idea, because the modern mini-games often don't need particularly powerful hardware (although I can imagine you're working the BBC pretty hard!)
Re: Electrobots - new game for Elk/Beeb/Master
Haha, thank you, I'm glad you like it! The Beeb is just fine. Hardly breaking a sweat. But the Electron is really taking a beating!jms2 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:00 amI have just played the demo, and like everyone else I am very impressed! Re: Electrobots - new game for Elk/Beeb/Master
Wow - excellent playable demo and highly polished, particularly for a work in progress. Nice touches like the rising bubbles to sell the 'underwater' effect. I want to explore more! Is it all going to fit in a regular Beeb/Electron memory?
Re: Electrobots - new game for Elk/Beeb/Master
Thanks! Yes, the final game (128 rooms) will work on a bog standard Elk or Beeb. You can even load it from tape if you really wantTobyLobster wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:14 amWow - excellent playable demo and highly polished, particularly for a work in progress. This is really gorgeous, so smooth, had a bit of a Citadel feel to the energy mechanic, can't wait to explore the whole game

Plays really nicely - can't believe how smooth the graphics are! What do you know that 80's developers didn't?!
