New promo/intro video for Stardot!

Post by Arcadian » Fri May 22, 2020 9:25 am

Hi, for anyone interested, here's an intro we've had created to promote the Stardot forum on some videos that are due to be published soon.

It features a guitar-based cover of the jingle from Acornsoft Arcadians, which has even had a stamp of approval from the original composer, Nick "Orlando" Pelling! :)

https://player.vimeo.com/video/420957908

We're really pleased with it, so let us know what you think, eh? :)

Good work. It sounds and looks spot on and is just the right length for a video intro too

For the music couldn't you just rip the jingle from Elk Arcadians?

Here's a simplistic version in BASIC with palette switching. Not enough colours unfortunately. But it should work most platforms.

Oh that is cool. I'll have to have a think about what I could do with that concept, the other intro has already been tacked onto the videos I've rendered from last Saturday, so we'll be sticking with that - but I've got one or two ideas for possibilities where we could your revolving dot version to use!

I actually first did that animation back when we were looking for a new design but then realised that you only wanted a static logo. I re-animated it the other day when I saw your promo video coz you know me, very old school and like to keep my retro stuff as simple as the innocent time it represents. I'm certainly not a graphics ninja as you also know but maybe a nice sequence - which I think is within my Fisher Price skillset - would be for the 'dot' to go once round all three orbits? Let me know.... :)

Nice demo. And you have at least five colours, on the Atom we will have only four which makes it impossible to achieve this. But I have an idea to make something similar .... now I just need the time to write it :)

Good stuff.

I've update my version with stars and text above. Also here's a B+/Master version that uses the shadow to double bank so the movement of the dots can be smoother.

Caveat: It's not very "clean" in that it uses direct poking of the ACCON register. Not tested on real hardware.

Code: Select all

   10 A%=0:X%=1:M%=((USR&FFF4)AND&FF00)DIV256

Hey, I know I don't have any graphics or sound creativity, but now I feel left out :(

Try this on a real beeb or decent emulator ;)

PS I didn't bother adding compression as it still has 400 bytes spare and is sort of OS and BASIC legal

Thanks 0xCODE, I'm sure the Elk can do it to - I bet the speccy could
Thanks Lurkio, I though the sound was broken, but hadn't clicked the top of the page to enable it.
I'm sure the gfx and sound could be improved, but that is for someone else if they want to.
