This was my first game for a few days. It would have been better but I got the bonus wrong on one level, and hit a few negative scores. A big improvement: 22,890.

Alright, I managed to squeeze a bit more out of it. Got to level 5 a couple of times. If you thought level 4 was brutal...

Everything went quite well this go:

I'm really glad to see everyone still playing. I hope it is because you are enjoying the game (as well as the hi-score challenge) as much as I used to BITD when I was living on a holiday camp and working in the arcade. I tried to match the difficulty ramp to the original, but may have missed on the higher levels as I have just found out that the world record is nearly 300,000!

This game seems to be pretty good although just when I need a few extra bullets, the 5 and 10 refuse to appear.

I played the Acornsoft last night just for a bit of a comparison. This is much better, more playable as a game.

There is a certain randomness to it, probably because of the random nature in the way objects appear so it's virtually impossible to employ a 'repeatable' strategy. That's not the programmer's fault, it's the type/nature of the game that it is and keeps it fresh every game.

Great job on it Tricky. I wouldn't worry about the world record.... I think that is something you get locked in a room to achieve so shouldn't be a comparison point in my opinion.

Has this game been given an actual official Retro Software release yet?
I don't recall seeing it mentioned in the pages of RetroGamer either.
It must surely be the best conversion of this game to an 8 bit machine.
I haven't played the arcade version of it but judging by the screenshots I've seen, it certainly looks the most authentic.

Looking forward to the next coin-op conversion Tricky ;-)

It's listed on the Retro Software releases page as a release:
http://www.retrosoftware.co.uk/wiki/ind ... Broadhurst

...but the http://www.retrosoftware.co.uk/carnivale link is dead, and the linked Wiki page is empty. Someone should probably have a look at that...

I was about to post up my first score over 20k (20320), then I noticed Ed had already beaten that, so I had to have one more go and...

24050 :)

Don't think I hit a single BONUS either, so plenty of room to improve, just need the bullets...

Everything just seemed to go well this go.

It's always a relief to complete the level with your last bullet - happened a few times in this session, although I can't remember whether it happened this go or not.

Oh £$*@ing %"&! Sorry about that - I tried really hard to decipher what instructions were correct and what were not, and failed miserably. I've also not had time to play the actual correct version :( .

Had a combination of a really good run with good bonuses, and somehow getting through to level 6 here. Now that really is as good as I'm going to do...

Hey JimBob,

That was partly my fault. I put the wrong game up the first day....

Give it a go, if you got 10k on the AcornSoft crappy game then you can get more than that on this one. It plays sooooo much better and your eyes don't start rolling in their sockets after 2 minutes of play.

Well, I'm done for this round - Ed, you'll be pleased to know that I broke 25k and was on to beat your score, only then to miss the +10 bullets as it floated off the screen and I hit a -500, with only 2 bullets left... Arghhhhh!!!!!! :x

Pretty good game for the type of game it is Sir Tricky.

Oh, before I forget, this round definitely goes to the game's creator.... Tricky.

A great big =D> =D> =D> to you for such a top score. I don't care if you did create it, after playing it as much as I did, I know you have to be really, really good to get that kind of score. Very well done Tricky....

Thanks Ed, I had never scored above 30,000 before or since that game, but usually get mid twenties. I've been making a few tweaks to AstroBlaster ready for next season :)
