This is such a great game, wonder why I never heard of it BITD?

It makes the competition really fun. This might fall under the 'found nugget' category for me.

But you've still got MASTER and GRAND MASTER levels to break, so less talk and more playing!

Woohoo!!!!! :D

66970.

I still feel like I'm losing lives cheaply when it gets hectic.

Would everyone kindly stop playing now as I'd like to get back to Super Breakout.

Yeh, it feels like cheaply but I think it's just hecticness..

Been there, done that... And Sir Syd, you'd better keep playing. You know others (me) won"t quit while behind and not seeing 50k is now a rarity......

I'm sure a few others feel this way too.... Fair head's up...

All my previous scores had been using only the gun. My high score used lots of bombs. Bombs are the key to a high score but I keep blowing myself up when things get tight! I'm trying to shoot the enemies and instead I drop a bomb and immediately detonate it therefore killing myself! I don't now how you guys are playing but my strategy is to kill off all but one of the enemies - but reduce him to a white one - then kill the pink ones until the yellow smiley arrives then clear up asap. Does this count as point whoring or is it the only way to get a good score?

I assumed that wouldn't be allowed so I haven't been doing it - I've been trying to clean up the levels as quickly as possible.

Back at you ;)

I'm finding the bomb way too fiddly to use, I'm pretty much exclusively using the gun instead.

That was my first thought but having played it for a bit I realised that the yellow smiley acts as a time limit and if you take too long to kill the pink guys the change colour and speed up so much they become unavoidable. I think the way I'm playing is the correct way to play this particular game. If not I'm happy to remove my scores and play the way others are.

I don't mind either way - what does everyone else think?

I agree - the aliens speeding-up and the smiley yellow face going faster and faster and FASTER - don't make it an easy strategy, so it could/should be fine. It's not a question of you just going around and around making easy points - it gets more difficult very quickly!

Maybe I should try that way and see if it makes any difference to the scores I get!

Has anyone noticed that you can run through the yellow face - sometimes? It doesn't always seem to allow it, but more often than not I can run through him without damage. I haven't worked out the logic yet. Or maybe it is just my feeble eyes!

Well, new high score first of all.....77,125
AA10.JPG
To address the situation as Richard and Simon have pointed out....

I've been pretty much playing it the same way Simon has realizing you're only going to get so many points per level, it is literally impossible to score more than a requisite amount of points per level.

Having said that, I don't think this is a game like tapper where you could go infinitely on level one until you score a million points (wouldn't that be exiciting?) so I'm all for saying play it Simon's way. I can tell from the upper scores, that's how people must be playing it. Those scores are well earned and quite hard to get.

I think the people getting those scores will also have the highest scores playing it by going through the levels as quickly as possible....

One more thing.... if the general consensus is to play through the level as quickly as possible, then I am more than happy to scrap my score and start over....

All ideas/opinions are welcome.

Are you wearing your glasses Richard?

I'm sure you'll get a better score but really, I think either way is hard enough to get a score. I just happen to really love this game and will continue to play it after the competition comes to an end, well at least at season's end.

It's a fine line on this game. I'm comfortable with deliberately letting the pink aliens live and poo cherries for a while, while you collect the dots - after all, you've got to collect the dots anyway, so it can be argued it's just completing the level in a different order.

I don't usually tend to do the "farming" technique of leaving one white alien so that the smiley face doesn't appear. I'm not going as far as saying it should be banned, though. (edit - just tried it, and the smiley face does still appear eventually even with this method, so I think it's probably OK)

What levels are people getting to? I usually get to the level with the six cyan ones, but that's hard.

Had a good run for a while here, but then lost four lives stupidly in a row :(

A bit better still...

I think the farming technique is OK. You don't get many points for doing it in the early levels, and doing it in the late levels when everything gets hectic is quite hard. And it's easy to get greedy and make a mistake.

Got through the 6-cyan-monsters level, to be faced with the same again :) Somehow managed to clear two thirds of that stupidly hard level without losing a single life (I have no idea how...)

Wow, I go away for a few days and I've got some catching up to do... :D

I think the bonus-farming strategy is OK, as you probably can't do it indefinitely once the yellow smiley appears (?)

With my previous score I was just clearing the androids as quickly as possible without farming the bonuses, so here's my new best score after changing strategy.

I can usually get to the level with the 4 cyan androids, but I've not made it beyond that yet.

There was quite a bit of swearing involved with this run

I actually find I get better scores if I don't try and farm for points too much.

A lot of work for a pretty trivial improvement...

Got to the level with 6 cyan baddies. One life left, went up instead of right - dead!

I've just done a recording of myself playing this game and uploaded it to youtube. I only scored 88k or so but it demonstrates how to maximise your points when playing.

It's getting rather competitive this week

I tried taking the points farming a bit more seriously this go, trying to extract the most I could out of each level.
Points farming the early levels is boring and doesn't net you all that many points. I managed to lose a couple of lives in stupid ways just because I wasn't paying attention. :x
Points farming the later levels is certainly not boring! Quite a good risk vs reward mechanic going on there. It quickly gets harder and harder on each level until you either relent and complete it, or get too greedy and die.

I didn't get any further than I did on my better games before, but got a slightly better score...
