Oh, I KNOW you are just teasing so far ... giving me that faint hope that once, JUST ONCE, I'll beat you ... :-({|=

Busy holidays this year ... England, Scotland so far, New York (off in a couple of hours), England again later this year, and South Africa at year end. NOT our usual amount of holidays/destinations - just lots of family stuff happening this year.

I'm really very sorry JimBob.....no, really I am, have you seen my score?...not great and not likely to get much better by the feel of it.

I know how you're feeling.....even Richard is ahead of me.....which of course means......he's ahead of you.....

Are you taking that lying down?....c'mon, let's go get him.....

Hey TB, how would you like to share some of your tips and strategies on how you've managed such an awesome score. I'm sure people here would like to improve on their games......and that's really what this thread is all about.....to have fun. Perhaps you can shed light on the game for us lesser mortals?

Ed, see below from the Guardian thread.

I would emphasise, make sure you shoot all the landers first before they turn in to mutants, then go for whatever is left ........

1. The only time you shouldn't be shooting is when you may shoot one of your "men" on the planet, otherwise, keep shooting.
2. Keep shooting.
3. Keep shooting.
4. Never sit still - if you are not moving you are a sitting duck and things will sneak up behind you.
5. Combine steps 1 - 4 by thrusting and shooting whilst you hug the planet surface.
6. Never look at the keyboard - it's like driving, you don't look at the brake pedal when you need to brake. If you take your eyes off the screen you're dead.
7. Master the use of reverse - you should be able to fly past an enemy, do a quick flip reverse, fire one shot and reverse again without losing momentum.
8. Did I mention, keep shooting ?
9. Kill the Landers first so they don't turn in to mutants (see (5) )
It also helps if you have an original Defender machine in your office and have been playing it on and off for 30 odd years .....

Dang, I knew I should have kept playing Defender....doh, only ever had it on the Beeb and not on any other PCs that I had....

Thanks for posting those tips.....it will probably help someone.

Right, this pathetic effort is my final attempt at this game (and it took me ages to get this high).

Like this game for the memories BITD - loading it from tape, playing for a few minutes, getting frustrated, loading something else...

Anyhow, 25 years later and I haven't managed to get much further, and still get frustrated quickly, so only 35325 from me...

I've had 2 goes and I'm rubbish. I hate Defender/Planetoid/Guardian/Whatever.
It's a game I've always wanted to like but I just don't. That's it for me, never again!

4,500 or so. No screen shot. I'm happy to not score anything this round as long as I don't have to play this game again.

Rant over.
