So, this is the Superior Software version I think (and not the A&F one, I hope). I hardly played either BITD because we had Acornsoft's Hopper. I'll give it a go.

It won't matter WHICH version it is ... I'm not going to do well.

But that's because I'm blind in one eye :^o
My keyboard is broken :^o
It's too hot :^o
My screen flickers on and off when I'm about to get a high score :^o
The flies are tickling me :^o
The dog needs walking at the wrong time :^o
Games are harder in the southern hemisphere ... the computers go faster :^o

*Sees thread. Gets dead excited, thinking "I used to be really good at this - looking forward to taking it on again"*

*Clicks into thread*

*Reads thread*

*Realises that I've got Hopper and Frogger confused*

*Remembers how much I absolutely detest Frogger in comparison to Hopper*

Indeed! Just how did Frogger-SSoft or Hopper-ASoft morph into Frogger?

Same game, different name - wonder which came first? I got this from the original disk.

Frogger came first, it got renamed due to it not being an official port of Frogger to the Beeb AFAIK.

Not sure which is rarer though as I see a good mix of Frogger and Froggy on ebay etc. these days.

I have a Frogger original tape. My first ever game actually bought from the basement of Boots at the bottom of Fargate in Sheffield.

Those were the days when you could buy a computer in a pharmacy! LOL

I did ask Col to narrow his 7 nominations down to 3 here. He didn't narrow it down so I just took the first game from each of his 3 selections.

Alas, also my experience. I think there must have been three versions. I've never seen this one before but the other two were Hopper and another, even more basic, Frogger, which I still prefer to this version!

It's one of those games that's hard because it's dull... but regardless, after ten minutes I'm hooked!

Although I'm not playing now, ISTR that if you get to 5000 points you get an extra life. I don't ever remember getting to 10000 so I couldn't tell you if you get an extra life then as well...

Seems like you get an extra frog to sacrifice every 1000 points.

I'm bidding on one of each on eBay at the moment, because I was curious about the name change as well ... I was going to ask if the copyright holder (Konami or Sega) of "Frogger" had told Superior off and so they had to re-release as "Froggy"?

EDIT: my Google searches reveal the question has been asked and answered before by some fellow who hangs around here ...

My version of Beeb-em is old ... so no keyboard remapping - Ctrl/Del a bit hard to use (mapped to Ins/Del)... so I'll do better than this on another machine or real hardware ...

If you use a compact keyboard similar to this one, it's not too unmanageable.

then you had a go at the A&F version
utterly non playable, no wonder it was sold on a blank tape with no stickers:

so hopefully someone would record over it with this version! =D>

I've spent at least an hour or more (on and off) playing this and that's considerably more time than I spent BITD.

This is unfortunately one of those games which my brother and I termed "Wow! It works." I.e. "We've transferred it from tape to disc and have a few more games on the to do list. Satisfaction from playing the game seems to be less than the satisfaction of getting it working. It works... let's move on." And woe beitde you if the game warranted playing and you were having a sneaky play rather than getting on with the next cassette!

Something like this:
capture_038_19032014_233843.png
trevj_frogger_oncrocodilesback
I'm finding this tricky to judge, especially if the frog's facing sideways, so am mostly avoiding trying... although probably more practice would help.

In any case, I've managed to get up to 3,620.

This game is colourful, and mightn't be too bad for the era. But, frankly, if I never play it again it'll be too soon (that's not to say I'll not be back, especially if you buggers keep at it and I end up at the bottom of the table again). Cheers! :)

3740 for me. Took some time to get used to the delayed key recognition and the dodgy collision detection near the edges of the screen - or maybe it's not that bad on a real machine.
