Excellent choice, I'm looking forward to competing in this round.

It should be noted that this game contains a "points whoring" trick of the type prohibited by the general rules: destroy seven ships of one wave and then just fly NNE picking up parachutes without destroying the eighth (which triggers the next wave).

Thanks for the information, is there any way to determine whether this has been done?
Could everyone please ensure that they do not use the above exploit to produce high scores, I don't want to have to disqualify anyone from this round.

Another one of my faves from decades ago :) :)

Have to say that the collision detection leaves quite a bit to be desired on this :?

You get an extra life every 10000 points, but not at 100000. I don't know yet whether that's a one-off or whether extra lives stop completely. (And in case you're wondering, the 28100 is because I had been playing Lost Realms, and forgot my emulator was still set to 1.5x speed!)

Okay, it seems you get an extra life for every multiple of 10000 except multiples of 100000. And it's nice to be in the lead of a round for once  though this is my last one for tonight, so the others have a chance to catch up!

38000 from me. Not great but a fair reflection of my ability I think. :D

Is anyone else suffering from some of the clouds flashing/tearing and generally being difficult to focus on? I'm running BeebEm via Wine (PlayOnLinux) but I wonder if I ought to think about installing a Windows VM as an alternative. I haven't noticed this with other games but this one does seem a bit more intense.

How did they ever get away with this game without being sued by the creators of Time Pilot?

Paul.

Yep, I've noticed that as well, however it's more noticeable on my desktop machine, that's got a 2Gb video card in it, than it is on my laptop, which has 256Mb which it 'borrows' from the main memory. Most odd.

Presumably the same way that Acornsoft got away with Snapper (or any of the other thousands of Pac-Man clones), or Hopper (Frogger) or ....

Is that on Linux or Windows? I've read various things about the Nvidia drivers generally being a bit crap at VSync on Linux (and probably Windows too) but with no definitive solution. Wondering if I should switch to the open source ones as I don't really care about 3d.

Fair point about all them other clone games. Ironic that all this is/was permissible and yet there was the Apple/MS look-and-feel legal nonsense. Doubly so when you consider Apple were only really copying Xerox PARC anyway.

It's a bit clunky and the collision detection is infuriating. Still, it's a reasonably playable conversion...

Another great game and for me another one I had never played before.

I think the No1 score so far will take some beating!

On my second day of this game, best so far my last effort at 51,700.

I'm finding the speed of the helicopters more of a problem than their heat seeking missiles.

Nice history lesson in this game. '99 was a bugger of a year; bad enough doing my GCSEs without the bloody aliens invading.
