Wow! What happens if the score rolls over?
I would say it's a moot point as I can't imagine the pain these 2 are going through to get those scores. Venger would have to play at least another hour to get to the roll over point and that would just be physically very difficult I would think. Getting to that score I just have to say..... kudos to you both for persevering so long and arduously in this game. Personally, though I love the way it plays, I suck at it. I'm actually better at Rocket Raid where I can get through several times before croaking but these 2 have it pretty much mastered.

Not quite at the level others have managed, but here's my best so far... 77,450

I'll save you the disappointed, it has another digit of score, but it doesn't display it.

I wasn't 100% that it was loopable on the hardest fuel setting, but it is a direct copy of the map and on the stern version I'm told that you can't miss a single fuel.
Your version seems a little more lenient than that on levels 6 and 7, you can miss a good few as long as you get the majority of them.

Once you get to level 8, it's back to easier mode again and it becomes a marathon at that point. I could have scored more here, but I'd had enough and started getting a bit sloppy.

Great conversion, this.

I'm going to have one more go tomorrow, then I'm conceding to Venger. I'm closing in, but - yikes, what a way to go!

I had some ideas about how the game (that is Scramble, not just Tricky's conversion) could be improved for the non-coin-guzzling era:

1) Fix the number of loops to, say, 10. This would make it a score attack game, and really concentrate the mind on what to shoot/bomb.
2) Increase fuel depletion rate per loop. In later stages, this would really change the dynamic and increase the risk/reward.
3) Randomise the rockets that will launch in certain levels/loops. Keep 'em on the edge of their seats.
4) Randomly (or programmatically) switch the order of levels per loop. Break the 'zone'!

That is a bug then, it is sopposed to keep getting harder with another difficulty setting for fuel, saucers, fireballs and more flying rockets.
It will have to stand for the competition, but is probably linked to the saucer issue.

A harder difficulty setting for fuel would make it impossible to loop as when you complete levels 6 and 7 (the ones where the fuel is consumed rapidly) you're already down to the last drop of fuel remaining.

I would have to check, you are supposed to have to hit every fuel on the Stern version, but maybe they have a few extra fuel targets.

Sorry, I have just checked and the difficulty levels are applied after the Boss, and there are eight of them, so the ninth loop is as hard as it should get, but it should stay at that difficulty.
Initial difficulty:
  • Fuel 5 (fuel lasts for 5 units of time)
Saucers 4 (on screen at once)
Meteors 16 (on screen at once)
Launches 1 (rockets inflight at once)
Difficulty increments after boss:
  • Fuel 4
    Saucers 5
    Meteors 20
    Lauches 2
    Fuel 3
    Saucers 6
    Meteors 24
    Lauches 3

I can do better but wanted to at least post an entry. Excellent game, tricky, but things move too fast and there's not enough fuel. (What do you mean, it's me?!)

BITD I changed Rocket Raid so that one key press did bombing and firing because it was too much for me otherwise!

I thought I had added that for joystick, but apparently I hadn't!

Ok, starting to get the hang of this excellent game!! On joystick - that took a while to work out the bombs vs missiles!

Final High Score Tables Updated for Season 13, 6th Round......

This is another great conversion by our very own Tricky. What a nice job of graphics creation and smoothness. We did find the odd thing that needs a bit of attention but overall a very nice port Tricky. =D> =D> =D> Our winner this time is Venger who absolutely crushed this game. Great game Venger and also MartinH who scored really well too. Kudos to both of you on this one. =D> =D> =D>
