Made it to wave 1 second time around, had a fantastic start without losing a life until wave 8 and somehow managed to bulls-eye a few more proverbial womp rats down in beggars canyon to progress a couple more levels

First and last game for today, seemed to be on a roll and didn't lose a life until wave 8, made the same mistake twice on the last alien on wave 1 R2 so feeling like we could go even further with a bit (lot!) of luck.

Score: 4549

Hello all,

Glad you're enjoying my game choice, on balance :-) . It doesn't offer particular depth of gameplay, but I've always liked its speed and responsiveness, and the sound effects throughout are tremendous - an early example of the gifts with sound that game author David Hoskins would later demonstrate to the fullest with the Speech! program for Superior.

Annoyingly, all of my original hardware is now in storage again (albeit in the best of circumstances, as our house rebuild is progressing at a barely imaginable rate considering the time of year and weather!), so I can only play what works well enough on an emulator without recourse to keyboard mapping. Thankfully, this is one such game, so whilst the snowy weather is killing all my freelance work stone dead and confining me to home I'll try to get some scores on the board this weekend.

Toodle pip!

Slight increase, don't think it will get any better, just find the end of level when the last alien goes silly really frustrating as it's virtually impossible to avoid them, and with all the bullets coming down, so easy to lose a life, and I forgot how to spell my name !

Best effort from Saturday or Sunday - ach, what I'd give for my original hardware right now. 2,501 is as good as it's got so far...

A final few goes on my work PC this evening before coming home, and mid-table respectability is now assured, hahaha. I won't beat this 2,936 in the remaining time available.

One of the first things that grabbed me with this game was the noises, and how loud it was, another of his games Ghouls had pretty impressive sounds effects too.

This was a good twist on Space invaders, just the end of level madness spoilt it as it was difficult avoid and ended up getting one of them smashing into you and nothing you could do about it.

Ghouls definitely a good game, especially (as you say) the sound. Not sure I ever got off the first or second screen, though!
