I can't play this - is it just about learning the timings or is there more to it?

I can't get past the spiders on level 3.

EDIT: OK So I got past them, but not much further...

Looks like it 8) - I'm not quite consistent enough to marathon this, but I'll be playing this again...

Yeah, it's very much a puzzle platformer. Lots of working things out, split second timing and memorisation required.

Finally got through Yikes but only had 1 live left, luckily the next 2 screens were a doddle, and I went straight through them first try, then Johns Chin put an end to all of that !

Followed by 5 more games straight after where I got to Yikes every time with all lives intact and got nowhere, think that's as far as i'm going to get with this game.

There is a pattern to Yikes, once you see it, you can get through nearly every time..... don't give up yet Matt.

Did anyone manage to complete any of the 3 amended versions I posted in the Issues Section?

I haven't and don't want to, as I like this game, not quite figured out the pattern yet, but can do levels 1-3 every time no lives lost, and did levels 5+6 first time , but yikes gets me every time
and I don't know why as this wasn't a problem on Vindaloo these type of platforms, must be just me judging by the scores being posted!.

It's not just you. The reason I haven't posted another score is that I keep getting stuck at Yikes...

I use 2 methods to get through Yikes. I count sometimes and visualize the platform at others. If you get to the bottom level, it's dead easy to do the final part once you know the solution.

I hope that helps. I don't want to give away the solution, just hopefully hint at it. It can depend on how your mind works i suspect but since we're all gamers and likely mostly IT people, we should mostly be thinking similarly for the solution.

Anyway, good luck, I have to try to catch Jools, came really close a couple times.

Yeah I can't get past Yikes either. I'm just not seeing the pattern.

Ok, a new high score for me, just fell short of Jools' score but..... Jools, I hope you're playing this weekend because I will for sure beat your current score..... I self destructed on a level I normally do with my eyes closed so...... let's get to round 5 of this...... 250,070

Oh, c'mon..... you're going to just let Jools and me have the top scores without a challenge? Once you've done these screens once, it's a whole lot easier next time or two times for that matter..... try a few more times, you'll see....

Slightly better score, Yikes still proving hard, more luck than skill, don't see any really obvious patterns, shame as the other levels seem to be really easy,

Not yet, I haven't got round to it. I'll have a go after the competition is complete, but for now I want to preserve my enthusiasm for the competition...

But of course 8)

Got to round 5. "Yikes" is the level I tend to mess up the most - I've only just got to the point where I feel I have the optimum strategy for that level and can do it with any sort of consistency. Got past "Yikes" then lost concentration and messed up on the beginning of "Electric Elevator", one of the easiest levels in the whole game. Sigh.

Yeh, I messed up on levels I had no business messing up on, it's just concentration of going through them so often. I actually was nearly through the 3rd level with 4 lives left, got too comfortable and quickly went to one life. I soldiered on but lost my last life on level 2, 4th time around again.

For me, Yikes is almost automatic now. It's the one I'm least likely to mess up so I should be able to go forever now on this game but..... concentration....I am 67 - 1/2 after all......

Moved up a bit more but still a tad short of your score Jools...... 288,900

Oh, this is being played on my Master, thought I would try it that way and I really like the control a person has.

A person, as opposed to what control your cat has in the game? :)

I don't see why you and others don't get scores of 200k+ with Fortress. If you're willing to put in the effort to get perfect with this game surely you can do the same there? And just in case anyone gets a 220k+ score with Fortress, I will have a go too at improving my old score...
