I've probably got the same strategy as you, but you can still get outnumbered and backed into a corner with no escape. You can also quite easily get hit by a cheap shot when you're least expecting it.

Best score so far, excellent graphics and nice and noisy, but could of given an extra life now and again, very easy to have a missile drop on you without even seeing it.

I was going to put together a video to explain my strategy, but I have yet to discover the correct incantations to make that happen. So instead I'll explain what I'm doing. I'd be interested to know if this works for you...
ac6 - Copy.png
As you can see I divide the screen into two areas - the Visual Noise area, which can be ignored, and the Play Area. The Play Area, being smaller makes it easier to keep track of what's going on and it also has less of the background scenery making it easier to spot -and track - enemy bombs. Another bonus is that any enemy you kill in the Play Area will tend to be flying so scores more points. So here's what I do:

At the beginning of the round go to the play area - you do have to watch out on the way, because you can get bombed.
I like to lurk on the left of the Play Area and pick off any aliens that encroach, including any static aliens.
When too many aliens start getting in to the Play Area you can move to its center and right to deal with them, but always return to the left when you can.
Aliens that are moving to the right and disappear above your ship tend to spawn top and center of the Play Area, so you can launch a missile to deal with them before they spawn.
You do need to watch out for enemy bombs, but they are far easier to track then trying to deal with the entire screen.
Aliens in the top half of the Play Area seem more likely to release bombs, so I try to pick these off first.
Once you're down to the last few aliens just wait for them to enter the Play Area to deal with them, it's far safer.

Yes, that's what I'm doing, just not as well!

I believe that flying aliens which go off the bottom of the screen come back in at the top directly above where they exited. This helps you to predict where you need to shoot. As you said, getting into the play area at the start of a screen can be tricky, especially as you have to adjust your fire rate when things get busy.

Yep, me too.
One side or the other. (I hadn't realised the right side was better than the left though)

Yeah, that's exactly the same strategy as I use but on the other side of the screen.

Best score so far , would of been more had the game not crashed on me during the middle of a game, keeps doing it, hence the screenshot from the middle of the game. It didn't do it to start with , not sure what's going on there.

I don't think I'll do much better than this. The problem lies in the time allocation too, as a game takes about 25 minutes now.

Another little step up. The end came very suddenly. Everything was going well on two remaining lives but I got careless and bang, bang, both gone in an instant. Well, I guess I was careless with the first life too!

Staying in the Play Area definitely helps! I'm not going to get anywhere close to 60,000 ... but here's my new best score: 26,780

High Score Tables Updated for Season 16, Round Eight......

This was a pretty good game that got hectic as you go along, more hectic than I could manage, I might add.

Well, the winner this time is MartinH with a high score of over 73k (I want to know what drugs you're on Martin), with again some other very decent scores. Congratulations on a great win Martin, there was some decent competition.. =D> =D>

On a side note I'd like to thank all those who played this round. We had 12 playing this game again which is decent so.....Thank you!!! It seems we are mostly averaging out at 11 so this is a bit above average.

Just as another side note, please check to ensure I've not missed anyone's scores as I've been busy and it's easy to miss things on this and I really don't want to do that for anyone's hard earned score.
