Bit premature there, Ed. Saying that, I think we're all wanting Kix to be over with sooner rather than later

It'd give me nightmares if I had that as a screensaver!

I'll chuck my hat in the ring with this starter score. Never played this before but it's a nice change of pace from the last round. Quite a catchy little tune and some decent graphics too. Cyril's a bit vulnerable due to his inability to move when jumping but it's just something I'll have to learn to live with.

What an awful game! Rubbish controls, rubbish imprecise jumping, random spawning butterflies up the jacksie. RUBBISH!

I think you're playing too many modern games Martin. This isn't that bad and it's real relief after Kix. It is 8-bit after all and not programmed after everything in the Beeb has been discovered and optimized both hardware and software-wise (ie:done in 1984).

I actually like it and you are almost certainly to get a split of people on this one but sometimes it's also because a lot of people don't really like platformers. I for one do and I'm pretty sure Venger does.

Your score isn't bad for this early. It'll grow on you, I'm sure.

Well Chuckie Egg is older than this and it manages to do platforming right. This doesn't and it's not a programming issue, it's a design issue. But here I am again railing against games that are almost as old as I am. I put it down to feeling ripped off having saved so much pocket money only to feel cheated by crap like this :)

Chuckie Egg is arguably the best platform game on the BBC and is a timeless classic. Admittedly, this isn't in the same league but it's still not that bad. I've played a hell of a lot worse. The graphics are nice and bold with well-animated sprites, there's a catchy tune (although it may grate after the 100th play  ) and the colours are well picked and the baddies stand out well against the background. The controls are pretty good (unlike in Kix) and the collision detection is spot on as far as I can tell. The only thing going against it is that you can't change direction in the air and that it's a bit slow. If I bought this under a budget label back in the day I wouldn't feel cheated in the slightest (unlike when I bought utter crap like Hercules).

So, to reassess what I think about this game after a few plays......

It's very consistent. The jumping is spot on though slow. Controls ARE precise, you just have to get used to them.

It's a fair game and the only real randomness are the bees, butterflies and walking creatures.

It's not going to be everyone's style but it is a fair game.

Hmm not sure about this one, decent graphics but a bit ordinary on the controls.

Just had a few goes and got right to the end (visual clue on Stage eight) but couldn't get all the acorns before dying. I suppose we'll have to see whether the game wraps around or not next time out.

Nutcraka , remember it well, when I got my BBC B it came with a random box of games, and this was one of them, never heard of it before, but saw the Software Projects logo so gave it a go, nice little game, excellent graphics for 1984, catchy in-game tune, nice little game.

Plays a lot fairer than certain other games, but the bee is the biggest pain as it keeps darting about all over the place, the jumping is a bit fiddly at times and could be better as I have pressed jump button many times and nothing has happened, but it's nice to play a platformer for once where you can fall all the way down and not lose a life too.

Much better score managed to get to level 5 , seems there are only 2 different backgrounds, just alternates between the two.

Nice graphics and music, but the game plays like swimming through treacle. Frustrating as it was, I think I prefer Kix...

The slow frustrating jumping reminds me of Frak, it might grow on me as I get used to it.

Got 7500 after a few goes.

Wow - is this game sllooowwww! I find that the return key to jump doesn't always register - that's my excuse for not doing very well so far :D, just a paltry 5250 - but we mustn't forget, from acorns mighty oaks will grow so lets see what happens tomorrow.

I remember this game, the graphics are cute and the level designs are pretty good. I find the music a bit too repetitive though. I think I've got further with it today than I ever did back then, I got up to level 4. Score: 13,000

It took me a while to get the feel for this but finally I'm making a little progress. However, it still "bugs" me when I start a long jump and then can't avoid a bee or butterfly that wasn't there before.

As for the squirrel, if only it would stop staring at me with those gormless green eyes.
