Level 3 is mental! The ball seemed to gt stuck in loops a couple of times only to suddenly come out of it and go into another one before finishing. I also got lucky with two Bs.

I'm also up to level 3. This is a really good conversion, just a bit too fast for me. 34,050

Doh! (very fitting for Arkanoid...) I forgot to add the screenshot in the first post!

My Arkanoid skills are rusty. I can barely get off level 1 without the level skip bonus! Still, a bit of a bump here.

Wow, this is one difficult game. Oddly enough, I found it a little easier on level 4 as the ball goes up behind the blocks and does a bit of work without help. I like it, although it's going to take a while to get my fingers working quick enough :)

Just fast-tracked into level 4 which gave me a bit of a score boost.

I'm sure this game was easier back in my early teens! I remember being able to keep all three balls in play at once. Can't seem to manage that these days.

I have been playing under emulation using JSBeeb, as my actual machine is currently only available for late night disc archival (which doesn't make bleepy bloopy sounds while family are sleeping!) Can I just post screenshots from that?

Yes, I use an emulator as I've never had a BBC (I've got 2 Electrons over my mother's house). Just as long as your score is under 81360

Well, I managed over 50000 yesterday but didn't take a screenshot... so I shall be aiming for your high score but posting interim scores in the meantime!

Random luck wins the day! This game is just a bit too random and fast - and is it just me, or do some of the power-ups not actually do anything?

The one that's supposed to slow the ball down does nothing unless your ball is travelling at top speed (this only happens after it's been bouncing around for a long time). Otherwise it's only good for the 1000 points you get when you collect it.

We're all relatively old! lol. I'm sure all of us used to play the games when they first came out over 30 years ago!

I don't think I'd have done any better as a teenager on this one. It's too fast! Plus, compared to other versions I've played, it seems a lot more difficult to get the ball to stay in the top portion of the screen.

Sooooooo, maybe a stupid question, but what the heck.

When these high score challenges start, do you have to join from the first game in the series? Or can you still participate if you’ve missed a few?
Play away my friend. If you don't start at the very beginning it just means you won't likely win the season but we're open to all to play at any time.....well, within the times set.

So yes, you certainly are free to join in the fun and action.

Ach, it’s not about the winning anyway - I’ll say that now because I’m getting old and rusty :D
I'll be highly medicated and my humour can be twisted, so when I offend you, its not intentional, honest

I'm getting a bit more in tune with this game but still very erratic.

Mostly I just try to hang in there until luck comes along!

Quick game at lunchtime and I managed to get above 50k. I have a while to go before I'm challenging the current winners though.

A very pathetic increase in score  Level 5 is a pain in that it only has very few single-hit blocks and bonuses only come from single-hit blocks...

And a small improvement on my next go. I think it'll probably take a lucky "B" bonus to get past level 5 (although I only had about 5 or 6 silver blocks left on this go).

This one's a little frustrating. There seems to be a bit of a lag between pressing the button and your bat moving (although how much of this is due to the game and how much to the emulator / TV combo I'm using currently I'm not sure - might be worth trying on real hardware if I get round to it), and it seems like sometimes the ball seems to go straight through your bat.

I was lucky this time. I got two B bonuses to get past level 1 and 2, then cleared level 3 with help of a D bonus.

I agree, sometimes the ball does seem to go straight through the bat.

New high score: 53,100

I used to love playing this back in the day and I could rack up quite the score - well into the 100,000s.

But, and here's a big but, it was too fast for me, so in order to slow it down I used to hold down the pause and unpause keys all the way through.

Keeping those two held down (DELETE and COPY if I remember rightly) would repeatedly keep pausing and unpausing, thus introducing delays into the game loop, making the whole thing more manageable. I'm pretty sure that would be classed as cheating and not within the spirit of the challenge, not to mention making the two fingers on those two keys go numb pretty quickly).
Just remember kids, Beeb spelled backwards is Beeb!
