The difficulty level on this game is insane. Somehow, I managed to get to level 4.

Good effort Jools, after much teeth clenching I only managed to get on the high score list, could they have made it any harder?

There is a real sense of urgency with there hardly being enough time to return the rescued men let alone getting to them in the first place ](*,)

Yup, I tested this out while trying to find good games for the competition. For me, this one didn't make the cut but hey, it got picked though I dreaded that happening. Anyway at least it will be a while before it can be picked again. Maybe I'll create a list of games that will be banned.....

I hadn't played this before and it's challenging to say the least! It took me several goes to get on the high score table. I quite like it though (famous last words...).

A small increase. This game is extremely unforgiving. No room for error here!

I've found that a couple of whiskies help before playing this game. My first go after having a few this afternoon. Must calm the nerves a bit

Could they have designed this game to be any more difficult...? It's hard enough to pick up the people, but then to add a time limit on the return trip is

My best score so far: 1325

I figured it would be "fun" to see how much we could improve with some practice... I'm up to level 2 now. New high score: 3407

So, are people using keyboard or joysticks for this? I doubt I'll live long enough to post a score.

There are tactics to this game... just not ones the programmers intended!

Got to level 4 again. Using keyboard here, this game requires precision.

I've only ever gotten to level 2. I can score over 3000 on the first level alone by picking up all the blokes and depositing them safely on the platform (although it's a tough task to get all 4 safely over to the other side). The only other tactic that I can see is toughing it out with the ghosts and waiting for the last bloke to become a ghost to get to the next level. It seems a pretty dangerous tactic though.

My tactics:

- Head over to the left hand side, shooting a few rocks as you go
- Shoot rocks, until the lava is about halfway down the first section
- Pick up the left-most human
- Shoot rocks again, don't bother to head back home
- The human you're holding will fall to the ground at about the same time the lava gets the right-most human. So two ghosts will spawn at about the same time.
- Pick up the second left-most human
- Head home if you can. If you can make it, great. If not, then oh well.
- Shoot rocks and avoid the ghosts until the lava gets the second right-most human. This won't take long.

A bit easier as you only have to make two trips across the rocks rather than eight. It's a bit of a dirty strategy though, as you don't end up rescuing very many people. And you only make about 1000 points on the first level, at best. If you're good at getting through the rocks, then maybe better to play the game as intended.

What makes me laugh about this game is that, along with the tons of molten rock hurtling towards you, you also have to contend with the vengeful ghosts of those you tried to rescue. Ungrateful bast****!

After dozens of goes with no improvement, I finally had a good / lucky run, and got to level 5! Getting an extra life at 5,000 points was helpful, too. The difficulty on level 5 is even more bonkers, though.

Don't expect I'll beat this score again.

I didn't think I'd have to play again before the end. A perfect 1st round and I scraped through level 2 somehow.

Managed 252 ... one man (promptly whacked into the lava) and two rocks. So only a 1/4 of the way to the high score table.

And because he got toasted he came back as Pinky and killed me.

Only made it across to the left-hand side twice ... gave up trying to shoot the rocks and just tried to get over to rescue the poor fellows.

Nice bright colourful fast game ... but needs to tone down the difficulty a bit!

The game is definitely not for the faint of heart. I like a challenge though and the game is a real test of reflexes. It just reminds me how hard games were back in the day and how (relatively) easy they are now.

So folks, I've been very busy the last few days and haven't given the HSC it's proper attention.

Venger, you've won the overall challenge for this season so what game would you like to have for the Champion's Challenge?

Thanks in advance,
