OK, I have Mark's 4 way OS switch and when I use the 1.2 OS, the characters are just fine. I also tested it on 3.50 and the characters were wonky.....so, Paul, if you have Mark's 4 way OS switch, use 1.2 to get everything right. If not, it's a good idea to get. It will make your Master more compatible with Beeb software.
I’m using my new Compact with MOS 5 ! I guess the OS switcher may not work with it! On holiday in Quebec City until Sunday - getting very scared with these high scores! That’s why I’m working on the LSC!!
I would check with Mark to see if it would work with it. It's certainly worth it to make it more compatible if it works.

Can I join in the low score competition...?! I'm stuck at level 1. Best so far: 4400.

Oh, I was trying to avoid that, thinking it was mild cheating - timing things to get an extra 400/800 seemed naughty ... but if you have to do it to clear a safe path, then hurrah!

I've gotten to the top right of the screen 3 or 4 times, but get snapped as soon as I start moving left and trying to jump over the snappers ... I'm so amazed I've got there that I then run into the first set of snapping jaws!

Hey hey Richard, yes, scoring like that is certainly part of this game and not considered as 'running up the score' via sitting on a level. 2 things would happen in this game: eventually you would run out of time, I have nearly a couple times when being too slow and you would run out of apples to drop. it is part of the strategy to make your path easier and allow you to maximize your score. In some past games you could stay on a level nearly indefinitely to reap the rewards of boredom but this game has finite ability to score more points on each level. One more hint, any 'monster' you jump over gains you 100 more points. This is also allowed and in level 3, necessary to complete the level.

Don't feel too bad Lee. I just finished level 4 again and got wiped out right on the first level again. It is more difficult but I've made it through before.

I find that there is another bug in the game. If you change left/right directions too quickly, the game freezes and get the pleasure of starting over after either a hard reset on hardware or the same on emulator.

It's annoying in that I had at least 2 games that would probably have beaten the score I have now and I'm sure others have had this issue. It's always fun to discover bugs in programs and here at HSC central, we're able to see games more easily for what they truly were and are......it's fun really.

Bumped it up just a bit......

Yes, Tricky, the freeze I'm getting only happens when I turn extremely abruptly, probably key roll-over effect and the program can't interpret that I'm guessing.

I will try to make a video of going through at least the first few levels in the next day or two.....but even though I've been through the 4th level many times, even on the 1st level I've had to restart many times.

I'm just finished uploading a demo video of achieving the first 4 levels and then bombing out poorly on the first level again....but there are more things to think about second time around. I have been around twice, narrowly losing on the 4th level the second time around, just not in this video.

In this video, the first life lost was not how I usually got through level 2. The second attempt is how I usually complete the level.

There are patterns to every level though level one is not as 'pattern' defined as the other levels, especially 2 and 3. 4 is more random than 2 and 3 but that's the nature of many switches or keys. I guess it's akin to today's boss levels.

The way I lost my lives on level 1 2nd time around isn't actually that unusual. There are way more things to focus on and I got caught focusing on the wrong things and didn't see the blue meanies sneak up on me.....TWICE!!! Then I missed that jump which actually happens more often than I would care to admit but it does. It can sometimes be a tricky jump, especially if the 'feel' of the game has temporarily left your fingers.

Anyway, I hope this is helpful to someone to further them along in this game.

Broke 50k, should be able to get higher with a lucky game.

Like the vid Ed, the only thing I would suggest is that climbing is faster when using two vines, which helps a lot on level 4 moving 2 locks if possible and also helps for a quicker finish and better bonus.

Nice score FS.

I agree with the climbing with 2 vines but it was funny, when I watched the video before posting, I saw where I could have used the two vine method to gain 2 more keys at the same time. Somehow I missed it. I think it's because the red nasty went to another area when I was single vine climbing and then didn't notice he left. Ah well.
