This is insanely hard, and pretty unforgiving as there's no "undo" move. But I guess once you've learned the levels.......

I got to level 2...

Long long game ahead, many foreheads will be slapped... got to level 2 and ran out of RL time with 4 lives left, will probably do a bit better but will need some quiet time to myself.

Score: 6572 (second so far!!!)

It's been a long time since I played this one, still pretty difficult, was always billed as Repton meets Pacman , makes me think Pacmania could of been done on the BBC though.

Only managed to get level 2 so far.

The four arrows is evil  To finish level 1 I had no choice but to back track over the four arrows to reach the last key which needed to be manoeuvred into position using reversed keys, managed to do it but not without a few heart stopping wrong moves luckily though it didn't result in repeating the entire level #-o

Sometimes the key swap (four arrows) is unavoidable, sometimes it changes all the keys to opposite and other times either up/down or left/right are swapped.

The good thing is that if you find another key swap icon the keys appears to revert to normal, I've had this happen a few times now.

If I find a key swap icon I try to leave it in place if possible and then if later in the level you're forced to run over another one then you can head back to the first one to reverse the effects.

Managed to get to level 3 which looks even more like a Pacmania level.

Still just as hard too.

Made it to level 4, strangely my score was slightly less than my previous highest where I only made it to level 2 I think because I'd trapped myself a couple of times on level 1 and had to restart the level :-

Level 3 is a real brain teaser, lots of back tracking and setting up to do, level 4 looks even more puzzling :-k ](*,)

Good that the password option is available to practice the levels, once you crack them it just becomes a matter of not messing up the moves.

Good to see you back Karate Ed.

Thought I'd post this score, it's a play through without all the dying (honest score though) on level 1 and I made it through to level 6. The first five levels I have cracked but level 6 is a real humdinger, such a long process it took about 1 hour :-|

Won't get much of a play at all between now and Monday so this may be my final go.

This is a beautiful game and I love puzzle solving games like this but I just haven't got the time to play it at the moment, sorry!!

I will remember it and one day work my way through all the levels though. It's totally my sort of game :)

Ok, I guess in this one if you don't do well.... ie: get cornered and have to start the level again from beginning, it works in your favour score-wise..... I hate it when that happens..... 12,030 ......

That's definitely one of the objectives of the High Score Challenge, I think - finding some gems you missed from BITD, or new games like Richard's Centipede. It's not all about winning. :D

WHAT!!!! Blasphemy Richard...... well, ok, I guess it's not ALL about winning.

I agree, there are some gems I didn't even know about bitd. This competition is fun that way, you get to play something new and with luck, even get good at it.

New high score, I have sussed how to do level 3 now but ran out of time. Hopefully will have a chance to play again to beat it.

I remember reading a review of this in Electron User back in the day, but never really played the game until now.

Nice game! Scoring system does seem to be a little messed up, though, as previously mentioned. I spent a lot of time working out how to do level 1 here and having to press escape to restart it, it took about eight attempts before I managed it (but I kept getting extra lives because of the potions). Which means I get a really great score, better than someone who got to level 6, which seems a bit unfair. Not sure what we could do about this - we could ban level restarts, I suppose, although that makes the game even more unforgiving than it is already.

A slightly ridiculous 24,320 :?

I'm now up to level 3, but not figured out how to do it yet. I cleared level 1 at the first attempt, but needed to restart level 2 a couple of times. Maybe there's a way to adjust the HSC points calculation so that reaching higher levels is given more weight? :-k

My best so far: 9589

In case restarts get banned, here's a score without them. Annoyingly, I was literally one move away from completing level 2 here...

Just a note folks. Restarts are not going to be banned. We work on a trust system here. We don't purposely let our guy die just to pimp the points so let's just do our best and if we get a high score because we're inept at the game, it's just the way it is for this particular game.

I know it doesn't seem fair but we've had some games that don't always seem fair, this is just one of them when it is in regards to score. I don't really like it either but the game is almost done.

Not bad, is it? I was off in Atari-STland by the time this one got released so I missed it BITD.

Almost got off level 1 but rolled the boulders the wrong way, and the final boulder was because of the reversed controls
