C64 software....and stuff....

Post by Prime » Tue May 14, 2019 8:44 am

No that I have my sd2iec & kernal rom switcher working......it would be good to get some software on there to actually play on this machine....

So does anyone know if there's a software collection for the commodore 64 like the STH Beeb or Atom collections?

Other thing is the video output on this machine has colour bleed, wonder if a s-video cable would solve that....

Cheers.

Phill.

For the colour bleed problem (which is quite a well known thing) you need to buy a LumaFix64. It can be a bit fiddly to get right but the results are quite stunning.

As for the SD2IEC software ... see PM :)

Thanks for those,

Having played a few games on the machine I found they where all nice and sharp but in greyscale....so I somewhat suspect the current monitor lead is not wired correctly, I've got one on order from ebay along with a couple of the fixers that you linked to.

Cheers.

Hi, you might also want to check in with thecorfiot as he’s engineered a new solution for jailbars and rotten svideo output. He’s got one of my c64’s at the moment. That’s got a lumafix already but it’s sharpened up quite a lot now!

If you search archive.org tosec c64 and have some time to spare there’s lots to weed through. I think everyone builds their own. To save time or stave off the time to build your own, a top list might inc; Dropzone, flip and flop, boulderdash, gribbys day out, ghostbusters, beachhead, uridium, wizball, plus some great new home-brew

Hope that helps

If you just want to grab some specific games then planetemu is great.

Some recommendations from me:
IK+
Paradroid
Emlyn Hughes international soccer
Microprose soccer
Myth
Armalyte

If you are into weird games than anything by Jeff minter is worth a go.

Elite and exile are both worth playing on the 64 though I prefer the Beeb versions.

Checking the top 100 list on lemon 64 would also give a good selection of great games.

And of course Mayhem in Monsterland, provided your machine can handle the VSP technique used for the scrolling without it crashing!

Thanks all, for the game recommendations......

Seems it helps to have a real C64 lead, found the lead I made up a few years ago and labled C64/VIC20 and the video is much better through that get proper (and much brighter) colours and they stay that way. Hopefully the svideo cable will be better still.

Cheers.
