Ancient Compaq Laptop

Post by alex_farlie » Thu May 02, 2019 9:15 pm

Ok Longshot but I am trying to track down a replacement 3.5 inch drive for a Compaq Contura 4/25 LAptop as well as a replacement screen. Probably "impossible" but people here can suggest all sorts of obscure parts :)

The floppy drive jammed a while back..

And the screen portion cracked...

Also missing the bottom rubber, but that's not essential...

I've also tried looking for a service manual online but can't find one....

(Please note, It's NOT an Aero series model.)

Ebay, m'good friend: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Compaq-Contu ... Sw6ttcyvd-

You must really adore old laptops if you're wanting that particular relic back on its wheels. Why not get them both?? Floppy drive or no?

I got an LTE 286 but it won't boot from the HD. And a weird noise apparently points to a broken belt in the disk drive.
I found on Google that if I run an install disk, there's a high chance that the HD is recognized again. I can't remember the reason.
I found the repository where the drivers for legacy HP laptops are kept in this address ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq.
I don't collect laptops this was one-shot. They're cool but I'm not knowledgeable enough.
