Loaded at 300 baud and works - so, Paul - I think your 300 baud Chomp may be corrupted.

Nice! I'll put checking the chomp file on my backlist...

Did you know about / try the sound mod on the parallel port? Attach a small speaker on pins 1 and 4 of the parallel port and you'll have audio support.

For more software to try; Terry Steward has put his collection online.

Whilst waiting for some 18 pin DIL sockets to arrive, I thought I'd renew some of the tantalum capacitors; in particular the two that had gone closed circuit. Previous tests, obviously, were carried out without these in place. ...
Sorry to resurrect this. I was wondering how you found the shorted tants. Or did you find out that two had shorted after they were all removed?

Would the approach: “cut the tantalum legs until the machine boots” work? Obviously with the risk that the last one to cut was the shorting one.

The reason I’m asking is a Sorcerer in a Dutch museum that seems to have the same symptoms as yours had, but the repair attempt seems to have reached a dead end. See the link on vced here:http://www.vcfed.org/forum/showthread.p ... erer-error

Hi DA

I replied on VCF. The only way to fix it is to pull tants on the affected rail one at a time until the rail voltage is restored. Also, per my previous posts, replace tants around the memory if there are corruption issues. Actually I'd replace them all, just to be on the safe side (which i am pretty sure is what I did to my Sorcerer).
