Nice catch ..... you have this:

- Motherboard Issue4
- Acorn Colourboard
- 6KB video RAM
- 6KB user RAM
- Floating point (IC21)
- Utility ROM (IC24)
- VIA (IC1)

Missing:
- Printerbuffer (IC50)
- Bus buffers (IC2/3/4)
- Bus buffer control (IC5)

In fact if you don't print and don't want to use any expansion boards on PL6/7 then you don't need the missing IC's.

Looks like LK6 and LK7 are not in so you need +8V-2A as power supply.
Does it start?

Greetings
Kees

Hi oss003,

Thanks for the summary, I don’t have a power supply yet, I need to sort out that next.

Would it be best to desolder the power components and link 6 and 7 and use a 5volt one.?

It looks good and does not smell, I wish I could say the same for myself.....

If you install LK6 and LK7 then you can use a standard USB +5V power supply or another +5V power supply. You can desolder the regulators but that's not necessary.

Just be carefull to use the right polarity ,...

Hi Folks,

Can anyone explain what the two connections are for here..is there an instruction manual for the colour card anywhere ?

Hi,

the left one is used for the power supply,
the right one is used for the video output of the Colour board & the blue wire something else.

The Manual for the Colour board:

Thanks for the info,

I’ve just found a suitable power supply so hopefully flash it up soon to see if it actually works.

The big capacitor on the keyboard side is not original and is added to stabilize a bad power supply I think.
If you have a decent stable power supply, you don't need that capacitor.

I find it dangerous to have the same connectors for power and video .......

Also C2 is out and the blue wire is connected to the +-side of C2 which means that the video out of the colourboard is the infeed for the modulator.

Hi oss003,

Quote,”Also C2 is out and the blue wire is connected to the +-side of C2 which means that the video out of the colourboard is the infeed for the modulator.”

Does this mean I connect the tv to the modulator...or the other socket next to the additional dodgy power socket.? Or both.

Hi folks,
I input a colour check prog, but the results were cr!p.

I don’t know if it is the old acorn card or the tv not accepting the signal, I had to get a scart cable for my other beebs.
Failing that I’ve seen an analog to hdmi adapter on the forum, may try that.

There are some pot meters on the colourboard ... you can read in the manual what they do .... VC1 is for the colour.

There is also a possibility to output RGB .....

Hi folks,

I couldn’t get any better a picture by adjusting the pots.
Sometimes when I adjusted way off a picture I got very vivid colours...just not in the correct place.

I just checked my temporary power supply, it’s 5.42v when unplugged, but only 4.82v when plugged in and Atom switched on.

I’ll have to wait until my new one arrives to test further.

Meanwhile I’ll have to find the parts for RGB, plugs/sockets etc.....or get an analogue to hdmi converter from the forum.

This is quite a low voltage but still in the specified (TTL) range of 4.75 - 5.25V

Do you always get the white band on the RGB signals from this board, does it remain when running games for instance ?

Yes, the white band is caused by the 60 to 50 hz converter. The screen refresh rate is normally 60 hz but the colourboard is 50 hz and freezes the screen to be shown at 50 hz causing the white band.

Hi Folks,

I don’t think I’ll be happy with the 50/60Hz white banding, so I’ve been looking into modern equivalents.

1) Hoglets - Atom video to HDMI adapter, which looks great......but..... it’s self build, and has some SMD components which will be well beyond my skills and shakey hand...... viewtopic.php?f=44&t=16907

2) IanB - RGB to HDMI boards, which also looks great and has an add-on board for the Atom, unfortunately he has sold out of the main boards but still has the analog boards...... viewtopic.php?f=8&t=20404&p=286709&hilit=HDMI#p286709

Can anyone suggest where I go to now.....apart from a SMD soldering course...

I may try the Wanted section for Atom upgrades surplus to requirements.....

I have also ordered a AtoMMC from Roland, I asked him about his RAM/ROM upgrade, YARRB2, for the Atom, again these are out of stock, but he is collecting names to order another batch of boards, so if you would like one too, then register your interest on the For Sale section of the forum....and I’ll get one too....

I’ll have to keep my eyes open for the new upgrades as they appear to get them.....

YIPEEEE.....I think I’m all sorted now.

Dave(Hoglet) has agreed to solder on the SMD parts and programme the chip..... thanks Dave.

Roland has gone ahead to order a few more Ram/Rom boards, YARRB2, and is supplying a AtoMMC .....thanks Roland.

Hi Folks,

I’ve just built hoglets Atom to HDMI board....and it works too....

But when I was attempting to input hoglets test program in the instructions I found out something else about the Atom, it doesn’t do lower case letters, I’ve looked on this forum to find a solution to no avail.

What do you do if there are lower case letters in a program and you can’t input them.....am I missing something obvious.

10 GOSUB a
20 FOR A=#8000 TO #81FF
30 ?A=A
40 NEXT
