SAA5050

Post by bprosman » Sat Jun 01, 2019 8:32 am

Looking into older designs of Acorn video boards I was wondering if the SAA5050 is still obtainable or even "emulatable" in a smaller CPLD or FPGA?
Actually not looking for a whole "Vdu board in a chip" , still in combination with an 6845.

Kind regards, Bram

And the SAA5050 and variants were extensively used in other teletext devices so you could probably pickup cheap kit and scavenge an SAA5050. Not sure what the retro market on old TVs is.

If you were doing a new design you could also pickup one of the later versions of the SAA.

But yes probably just easier to buy from ebay. I think I got my spare SAA5050 I use for testing from a job lot on eBay.
