Hi Hoglet & everyone, I would be very interested in obtaining an HDMI & video ram board - these look really good and it's about time I boosted my Atom (currently just has Atommc and an analogue colour board) - are there any spare?

Thanks

Bill

There will be plenty of spare boards and it's be easy to order more (in lots of 10). Let's just get the first one working first. :D

I would be interested to buy these boards when they have been tested. It would be an interesting project.

it really is a amazing nice new piece of Atom hardware Dave it really is =D> , but sadly I don't have any use for it... :-(
Apart of the 2014 Atom all my Atoms are using CRT's...
This board might also be very suitable to connect a VGA monitor to your Atom as there are conversion cables from HDMI to VGA. I have a VGA monitor connected to my Pi Zero. So you might have a use for it if you run out of CRT monitors

Hi all,

Well, both the "Atom Video to HDMI Adapter" and the "Atom 8K Video RAM and Noise Killer" came back today.

Both are now built up.

The "Atom Video to HDMI" worked first time, and fits the case very well.

Here's a selection of photos:

...

The "Atom 8K Video RAM and Noise Killer" didn't work first time. :(

But it did work second time :D

Stupidly, I managed to swap VDG and NRDS on the schematic. So a couple of wires were needed.

Here's some more photos:
IMG_1638.JPG
IMG_1640.JPG
You can just make out the two patch wires in this photo:
IMG_1639.JPG
With this fix, the board works fine at 1MHz, 2MHz and 4MHz. No screen noise at all.

I'm not too upset, as I was already planning a spin of the board (V3), to switch from a 74xx00 (NAND gate) to a 74xx08 (AND gate), as this will improve the timing margins, and should make it possible to build the board with all 74HCT parts. At the moment, I need a 74F00 to make it work, which was expected if you've been following the thread.

I'm actually glad I didn't send off the V3 version of the board, as that has the same error with NRDS and VDG swapped.

On of different note, tomorrow afternoon I'll build up the third board: the next version of the Beeb 1MHz Bus FPGA Adaptor.

Hi all,

I'm now ready to make bare PCBs available for The Atom Video to HDMI Adapter.

(The Atom 8K Video RAM and Noise Killer is delayed about 2-3 weeks, due to a silly mistake on my part)

I'm not currently planning to sell kits or fully built boards. This is definitely a DIY project. Unless, of course, people bribe me with large amounts of money

Over the next couple of days I will create some Wiki pages with PDF schematics, Bill Of Materials, etc.

Edit: Orders moved to first post

£10 seems totally reasonable to me, really appreciate you sharing this design. =D>

Can one of the mods enable pm's for me please?

Excellent! I've already ordered the box to put it in.

Now, I am one of the Dutch group (even though I'm British) who @Roland is organising shipment for.
Do we pay you or him?
Also, are we waiting for the noise killer board so they are shipped together?

Neil.

As I've got the boards here, and postage to Netherlands is only slightly more than in the UK, then I'm happy to send then immediately.

The two boards are can be used independently.

The updated noise killer board is going to be another 2-3 weeks (and I'll need to test it, as the design is a bit different, hopefully improved but you never know).

So I don't want people to wait.

I'm happy to send it separately later, and I'll cover the postage to people who wanted both.

If you PM me your address, and I'll PM you back my paypal details.

OK then, so I'll pay you and you send it direct to me. Saves another postage cost from Roland to me then.

And we'll sort out the 8k Noise Killer when its ready.

PM on its way.

Can you guys suggest a good all-round JTAG programmer for the Xilinx 9572XL used here that I can also use with other popular Xilinx chips?

TIA

I’d be interested in getting both boards!

I recently brought my old Atom back to life (bought new back in the day) and just added the AtoMMC, and looking what else to add. Ram and rom boards next probably.

Hi all,

I'm keeping the list in this post up to date with people's requests.
viewtopic.php?p=235835#p235835

Let me know if I've missed you.

I'm also working on a BOM for each board, which are mostly complete:
https://github.com/hoglet67/AtomRamAndN ... -Materials
https://github.com/hoglet67/RGBtoHDMI/w ... tom-Board)

The next batch of boards is 2-3 weeks away, so please be patient. Pricing will be the same:
- £10 for the bare Atom Video to HDMI PCB, including UK/European postage.
- £6 for the bare Noise Killer PCB, including UK/European postage.
- £15 if both ordered together.

The pause will be a good opportunity to see how the first batch of people get on.

I also need to point out there are a few surface mount components, so if you have any concerns about your ability to solder these, then just ask. You'll need flux, the right type of soldering iron bit, some blue tack, desoldering braid, and a bit of patience. Good lighting helps as well, as does some form of magnification for checking for bridges.

I am ordering parts but I don't have a Farnell account so I'm looking at my usual parts suppliers.

Will a SN74LVC1G66DBVR be OK instead of SN74LVC1G66DBVT?

Yes it will.

The important part is the "DBV" which means an SOT-23 package..

The R vs T related to the reel size.

I'll correct the part number on the Wikl to exclude that.

@Hoglet,
Can you share the programme for the test card that shows both colour sets. Is it in the Archive?

Many thanks,

Do you have something built/working?

For the CPLD firmware and Pi Software, you definitely to be using the dev branch. If you need binary releases of either, then please ask.

No, not built yet, still waiting for a few parts.
I just want to be prepared, and a recent incident has shown me that I need to read everything thoroughly before I start firing messages off to people

OK, here's three things for your list:

There is a binary release of all the files you (and other Atom Video to HDMI Testers) need to copy to the Pi Zero SD Card here:
https://github.com/hoglet67/RGBtoHDMI/releases

The jedec file for the Xilinx CPLD is here:
https://github.com/hoglet67/RGBtoHDMI/b ... toHDMI.jed

CPLD programming instructions are here:
https://github.com/hoglet67/RGBtoHDMI/w ... rogramming

I've updated the Assembly Notes with this info:
https://github.com/hoglet67/RGBtoHDMI/w ... tom-Board)
