Econet Card on Ebay

Post by John Ferguson » Wed Jul 25, 2018 6:52 am

Just to let members know that an issue 1 Econet card has gone on sale on Ebay.

The sale is nothing to do with me.

I thought members of this forum would be interested. I hope I have not broken the rules.

As a lay member, the post may have been better suited to the "Worth Taking a Look At" thread in the buying/selling section, but those who only frequent this atom/system corner may not look there regularly.

One thing is certain though: There have been two bids within half an hour of you posting, so it seems to have worked!

spotted that last night whilst having trawl though eBay - I've never seen one before and was interested in how it works.

marcusjambler - best of luck with your bid - I'll not bid against you on it. If you win let us know if you get it working.

For anyone considering buying this to reverse engineer, the schematic is already available:
https://www.4corn.co.uk/archive/diagram ... %20PCB.jpg

And the technical manual is here:
http://www.bighole.nl/pub/mirror/homepa ... boards.htm

I would say this is of limited use, because PL8 cannot easily be shared, and many Atoms now have AtomMMC connected to PL8.

might be possible to make it switchable - there appears to be an enable out on PL8 pin 4 fed from IC49 described in the Atom technical manual which could be intercepted - however I can't locate IC49 on the schematic I have to see what it actually is connected to.

It should be able to be shared, both the current version of AtoMMC and the Econet card only use 3 or 4 IO addresses.

It's easier to move AtoMMC as we have the source code :)

I did make a board that was a clone of the AtoMMC (I had Charlie's permission!) and a socket for a Master Econet module, worked reasonably well except of course you can only have one $A000 rom active at once, so it's either Econet or MMC. Having said that I believe that it's possible to use AtomDOS & Econet, so maybe SDDOS would also work.

Cheers.

Phill.

In an unexpanded Atom you can also use an eprom (2532) at #Exxx by piggy packing it on another rom and connect the cs pin to ic23 pin 9. Remove ic4 to avoid conflicts on the data bus as #Exxx is meant to be outside the Atom. That way you can have both the MMC rom and the Econet rom.

Or contact me for a free (almost: just p&p), simple expansion board at #Axxx ;)

Looks like it sold for £51! Way above what I was hoping for :)
