Acorn Atom on Eurocard

Post by bprosman » Sun Jul 15, 2018 4:18 pm

Following Rolands 2K18 discussion, built his previous model I was wondering if there would be interest in building an Atom on 19" Eurocard boards.
New meets old.. using the 6847 (No godil) but a PS/2 keyboard interface.
Split over maybe multiple boards, and for the Glue Logic I want to use the EPM3064 (44 pin plcc) on small adapter boards.
You still can get them pretty easy on Ebay.

Just thoughts.

Kind regards, Bram

If you choose to go ahead with this, I have a number of NOS 2x32-way type b DIN41612 connectors to hand. I've got several right-angle male connectors for your card, and some straight-through females for your backplane. Even after keeping some behind for my (theretical) System 1 to System2/3/4/5 conversion, I have some spare.

Hi Bram,

you should contact Theo Waaijer.

Many years ago he tried to make one, but he did run into some difficulties.

Greetings, Wim... :-)

In case you don't happen to look at the "Worth Taking a Look At" thread, I've posted about an auction of Eurocard racking that could be useful:

I hope you're a little closer than I am!

You've pretty much just described my AtomClone from 2009 :) Except that I was using Xilinx XC95xx series chips as glue logic. Had a 40 pin AVR on there doing PS/2 -> Crosspoint switch for the keyboard, along with AtoMMC.

I'd certainly considder releasing the design files as a starting point, should not be too hard to port to another CPLD series, and update with stuff like colour video, floppies etc.

Cheers.

Phill.

Hi Phil,

Would love to see your files as a starting/inspiration point. Especially the keyboard stuff.
The AtomMMC definitively will be included.

Colour video is a wish but not sure what workable options there are if I want to go Godil-less

Kind regards, Bram

Bram,

You should definitively visit an ABUG meeting where you can see a rack Atom :) . Furthermore I have a board and an AVR for connecting a ps/2 keyboard to the 7447 and 8255. And as soons as my holidays start I will investigate an alternative for the godil. You may also benefit from that....
