AcornDOS System version.

Post by Prime » Mon Mar 26, 2018 12:41 pm

Hi all,

The Atom forum seems the best place for this.

Just to let you know I have just uploaded a buildable (with beebasm) copy of the AcornDOS ROM plus all the utilities that where supplied on disk: BACKUP, COMPACT, COPY, COPYF, DUTY, FORM80 and FORM40, with the addition of VERIFY4 and VERIFY8 (to verify 40 and 80 track disks).

This will build for both the original Acorn 8271 controller and for the WD1770 controller I have been testing with (this is the GDOS-2015 board with a slightly different CPLD program.

I'll be updating this for the Atom at some point in the near future either as part of the same project or as a new project.

You can get the source with git at : https://github.com/prime6809/AcornDOS-System
You will need a recent version of BeebASM to build as the source uses -D to define symbols on the command line.
To make the disk images you will also need my DFSDisk program available at https://github.com/prime6809/DFSdisk and the HXc tools if you want to build hfe images.

My working environment whilst putting this together was cygwin under windows, but should be buildable under any Unix / Linux like environment.

Cheers.

Phill.

Nice job Phill,

Did you remove the Acorn VDU routines?

Not from the System version as they are kind of required.......

But I did remove them from the 1770 port on the Atom, that's how I got *FORM and *VERIFY to fit in the 4K rom :)

Cheers.

I've now updated this to be able to build the Atom and System versions of AcornDOS for both the 8271 and 1770 floppy controllers.

As such I've renamed the repository to reflect this :

Nice job Phill ..... =D>
Does this mean that you can use 80 track drives with the 8271?

Will have to actually test with the 8271 controller but yes it should. Though it's always worked for reading and writing, if you formatted them on another machine e.g. a System or Beeb DFS :) But yes hopefully we should now have a format program native to the Atom that can format an 80 track disk on the 8271.

Cheers.
